Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin has been placed in the ballroom of Balmoral Castle, a place close to her heart where she once danced as a young princess. Draped in the Royal Standard, the coffin will remain in Balmoral for two days so household staff can pay their respects, before the Queen begins her final journey back to London.

She was surrounded by her children and grand-children. Prince Charles, her eldest son, succeeds her. The Queen’s death comes just under 18 months and after that of her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who died on April 9, 2021. 

The Queen is currently at her Scottish residence of Balmoral where she is ‘under medical supervision’. Her Majesty, 96, took the decision to stay on at her summer residence this year and it was where she was to greet the new Prime Minister Liz Truss on Tuesday.

Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge are moving their family to a new home in Windsor and it's now been revealed their children - Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven and Prince Louis, four - will be enrolled at the £7,000-a-term Lambrook School near Ascot, Berkshire which is just a nine-mile journey from their four-bedroomed Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate close to Windsor Castle. Prince George and Princess Charlotte previously attended Thomas’s prep school in London's Battersea.

While Britain’s royals have traditionally been an endless source of headlines, in recent months Monaco’s royal family has been giving the Windsors a run for their money.

Last week we got some answers about what was going on with Princess Charlene of Monaco. After recovering from an illness while in South Africa, she had returned home to the small principality. But then she was immediately taken off royal duties and made no public appearances.
