Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot developments and the post-credits scenes in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” currently playing in theaters. By this point, it’s no secret that Marvel Studios has lost some of its luster in its post-“Avengers: Endgame” era. Between the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s rapid expansion on Disney+ and the exits of stars like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and the late Chadwick Boseman, the Marvel saga has often felt at once too much and not enough: Sprawl without a center. It’s a problem that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is particularly ill-equipped to address. For one, the film is wholly disconnected from everything else that’s happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-“Endgame” — there’s not a whisper of Kang or the multiverse or incursions or Talokan or, hilariously, Thor, even though the Guardians made a special appearance in “Thor: Love and Thunder” last summer. For another, the Guardians themselves — at least, as audiences have grown to know and love them — are also leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe, between stars Zoe Saldaña and Dave Bautista making clear they’re finished with their respective roles, and writer-director James Gunn departing Marvel to co-run DC Studios with Peter Safran.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is undoubtedly the end of an era. The James Gunn-directed trilogy signed off with an emotional adventure that united the team of intergalactic misfits to save one of their own, before the Guardians made the decision to go their separate ways — with a new team suiting up to help protect the galaxy. But, is it really the end?Following the end credits, which see Chris Pratt's Peter Quill returning to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather, the typical Marvel title card appears, promising, «The Amazing Star-Lord will return.»So, what does this mean? When asked about the moment at the premiere in New York City, Pratt seemed to choose his words carefully. «Well, this is the last time these Guardians of the Galaxy will be on screen together,» he explained.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director As James Gunn’s final Marvel movie opens in theaters and his DC Studios future begins, he’s shutting down any notion about the two superhero studios hating each other. Gunn has had a foot in both studios for quite some time. His Marvel run lasted 11 years and three “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies, while he made his DC debut with 2021’s “The Suicide Squad” and is now the co-head of DC Studios, where he’s writing and directing a new Superman movie. “It’s not odd. It isn’t odd at all, not to me,” Gunn stressed to Yahoo Entertainment when asked what it’s been like juggling “Guardians Vol. 3” press with his new DC Studios duties. “I understand how it appears, but I’m just busy cause I’m working two jobs at one time. But it’s not odd.”
When it was announced that Peter Safran and James Gunn were taking over as co-CEOs of DC Studios and were working on a brand-new slate of films to fill out the new DCU, fans were assuming that meant the death of every other project that was being developed prior. This included the highly-publicized ‘Superman’ film being produced by J.J.

Matt Donnelly Senior Film Writer Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav came to Las Vegas to put all of his chips on movie theaters. The executive made an appearance at CinemaCon, the annual convention of theatrical exhibitors, to reassure the crowd that the Warner Bros. Pictures Group was not interested in releasing its premium movies directly to streaming platform Max. “At Warner Bros., at DC Studios, we believe that everything is possible. This business could be bigger and stronger than its ever been,” Zaslav said on stage at Caesar’s Palace on Tuesday. “We believe in full windowing of the motion pictures. We do not want to do direct-to-streaming movies. We’re in no rush to bring the movie to Max.”

The second installment of the final season of “Titans,” which was split into two six-episode parts, has finally arrived on HBO Max. Two new episodes are now available on the streamer, which will release episodes on a weekly basis until the series finale on May 13. The superhero team-up series follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find where they belong. In the third season, circumstances draw the heroes to Gotham City, where they reunite with old friends and face new threats. The first half of Season 4 left off with a cliffhanging mid-season finale, in which Sebastian Sanger (Joseph Morgan) agrees to take part in a cultish ritual that leads him to unwittingly vaporize most of the surrounding Titans, a scene that is said to evoke the ending of Marvel’s “Infinity War” and Thanos’s iconic snap.

newly dubbed streaming service that combines HBO Max and Discovery+ content, is ready to get spooky, as Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday that it’s developing a drama series set within the universe of “The Conjuring,” with Peter Safran set to executive produce alongside original “Conjuring” filmmaker James Wan.The logline for the new series states it will “continue the story established in the feature films,” so maybe more ghost-hunting adventures with Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga)? They certainly worked on hundreds of cases, each one more skin-crawling than the last (something that was teased in “Annabelle Comes Home,” which was kind of like the “Jumanji” of the “Conjuring” universe).Wan’s production company Atomic Monster will produce alongside Safran’s The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros.
Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer The “Creature Commandos” can speak! The animated series — which is set to premiere in 2024 as the first title in the new DC Universe headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran — unveiled its voice cast featuring David Harbour, Indira Varma, Alan Tudyk, Maria Bakalova, Zoe Chao, Steve Agee and more. Varmawill voice the show’s main protagonist, Bride of Frankenstein, a version of the classic horror character; Frank Grillo will play Rick Flag Sr., the father of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, Jr. from 2021’s “The Suicide Squad” (written and directed by Gunn); Harbour will voice Eric Frankenstein, a version of the classic monster and ostensible love interest for the Bride; Chao will voice Nina Mazursky, an amphibious scientist; Gunn will voice G.I. both superhero comics franchises — has revealed that an epic blend is possible after taking over as head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran.“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge,” Gunn, 56, told Esquire on Thursday. “Who knows?” “[However,] that’s many years away, though.
It’s a fevered dream among superhero fans. And while a DC-Marvel movie crossover is not happening soon, it certainly is on the table, at least according to writer/director/executive James Gunn, who has worked in both camps.
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Will the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe ever have a crossover now that Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy director James Gunn is in charge of DC Studios? “I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” Gunn recently told Empire Magazine. “Who knows? That’s many years away, though,” Gunn added. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.” Gunn is starting the press rounds in support of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which marks his final directorial effort for Marvel. He already has one DC movie under his belt with 2021’s “The Suicide Squad,” but Gunn is now leading DC Studios with Peter Safran and has crafted a new DC Universe that will kick off with 2025’s “Superman: Legacy,” which Gunn is writing and directing.
Before James Gunn took over as DC Studios co-head with Peter Safran, he had loose ends to tie up with the MCU, making “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3.” Now, in the lead-up to that film’s theatrical release on May 5, Gunn teases what some superhero movie fan has dreamed about for years now; and, for the rest of us, is the stuff of nightmares.
Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer The modern superhero movie would not exist without the version of Superman limned by Christopher Reeve in Warner Bros.’ 1978 smash “Superman.” First created in 1938 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster for Action Comics, the Man of Steel became a pop-culture mainstay with the syn- dicated “Adventures of Superman” TV series in the 1950s. But it wasn’t until DC Comics moved into the world of Warner Bros. and Reeve donned the last son of Krypton’s blue-and-red tights for the Richard Donner-directed “Superman” that bringing a comic book superhero to life on the big screen was seen as blockbuster business. And the spoils were considerable: In the moment, “Superman” ranked as WB’s highest-grossing movie ever.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director James Gunn has written the script for his upcoming “Superman: Legacy” and is currently putting together a casting list and audition material. He’s also about to embark on a worldwide press tour for his final movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” The writer-director recently told Rolling Stone that his “Superman” movie isn’t going to feel like a “Guardians” movie. “I learned so much from making these movies,” Gunn said about his Marvel franchise. “But it’s not like ‘Superman’ is going to have exactly the same vibe as a ‘Guardians’ movie. It’s actually quite different.” What the tone of Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” will be remains to be seen. The tentpole is focusing on a younger iteration of the superhero than the one last seen on the big screen played by Henry Cavill. After his “Guardians Vol. 3” press duties are over, Gunn will transition full time to his new gig as the co-head of DC Studios with Peter Safran. “Superman: Legacy” will kick off the duo’s new DC Universe, which will also include films featuring Supergirl and Batman and Robin.
debuted on Monday, giving fans the first look at Xolo Maridueña as the titular superhero, aka Jaime Reyes. Blue Beetle” film. Warner Bros. has revealed the first trailer for the upcoming comic book film, showing “Cobra Kai” star Xolo Maridueña taking flight as the superhero.Maridueña stars as Jaime Reyes, the third person to take up the mantle of the Blue Beetle in the DC comic books. In the trailer, when Jaime goes for a job interview, he’s handed a mysterious alien scarab inside a fast food container. He waits to open the container until he’s with his family, at which point the scarab attaches itself to Jaime’s body and transforms into a super suit — a surprising subversion of the classic comic book trope that the titular superhero has to hide his identity from his family and friends. In “Blue Beetle,” they know Jaime’s a superhero from the start.
super run at the box office, but at least as far as story goes, Zachary Levi is standing by it. The actor admitted on Friday that he believes the sequel is “objectively actually a better movie” than its predecessor — but will it be enough to merit a third?Levi’s comments came during an appearance at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) on Friday, where he took an entire hour’s worth of questions from fans, as opposed to having a moderated conversation. As the conversation progressed, Levi noted that though he wishes “we were doing much better” at the box office, he still prefers “Fury of the Gods” over the first Shazam film.“I think ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ is objectively actually a better movie than the first film,” Levi admitted.
James Gunn continued to make it official on social media that he hasn’t made his decision yet on who’ll play Superman in his early days-set movie of the Man of Steel, Superman: Legacy. In doing so, the filmmaker also shot down rumors that Fury actor Logan Lerman would play him.
Back in late January, new DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the first chapter of their new DCEU. Entitled “Gods And Monsters,” the new slate includes films like Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy,” a Batman film in “The Brave And The Bold,” and even a “Booster Gold” movie.
