You know: those movies that keep poking you in the ribs to giggle at their cutely addled characters with their adorable eccentricities — I’m talking woe-is-us hipster comedies like “Pieces of April,” “Lars and the Real Girl” and the pop-crossover “Citizen Kane” of the genre, “Little Miss Sunshine.” The trouble with these movies is that even as they pretend to be lifesize, they’re too conscious about packaging their prefab weirdness; they’re edgy sitcoms minus the laugh tracks. But Rebecca Miller’s “She Came to Me,” which opened the Berlin Film Festival today, demonstrates how the indie quirkfest can be resonant and real, with characters who have soul instead of a chewy center.

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart delivered a dose of major glamour on the red carpet on Thursday as the Berlin Film Festival returned to full-scale, in-person operation for the first time since 2020. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky revived Berlin’s role as a political platform.   The Hollywood stars were greeted by packed crowds outside the Berlinale Palast and by festival co-heads Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian.

You would need a heart of stone to leave Rebecca Miller’s She Came to Me without wanting to pick up sticks and live on a tugboat, preferably one steered by Marisa Tomei. Tomei’s tugboat captain Katrina, with her softly weathered face, earthy humor and somewhat sociopathic “love” addiction, is a simply fabulous romcom heroine, if She Came to Me can be described as a romcom. And in Peter Dinklage, at his most darkly glowering as the perpetually panic-stricken, creatively blocked composer Katrina targets with her romantic zeal, she has her perfect foil. Props to Berlin Film Festival artistic director Carlo Chatrian for nailing She Comes to Me: light but pungent, it is a perfect opener.  

The consistently disjointed ensemble dramedy “She Came to Me” never settles on a sensible tone to match its anxious, but well-meaning characters, most of whom are neither so ridiculous nor so tragic to be either laugh aloud funny or convincingly dramatic.Writer/director Rebecca Miller (“Maggie’s Plan”) celebrates her protagonists’ variable qualities with mixed results in this comedy of cringe-y errors, which follows two teenagers who get caught up in their high-strung parents’ romantic crises. The movie’s older cast members, led by Peter Dinklage, Anne Hathaway, and Marisa Tomei, add some value to Miller’s lifeless scenario, which trails after Dinklage’s creatively blocked opera composer, his muse, and his elusive psychiatrist wife, played with typical poise by Hathaway.Miller struggles to capture some qualities that Dinklage, as panic attack-prone composer Steven, uses to describe the anti-heroic lead of his new opera.

The Berlin Film Festival kicks off this evening with the gala world premiere of Rebecca Miller’s She Came to Me. Ahead of the opening night out-of-competition screening, Miller met the Berlinale press corps alongside cast members including Anne Hathaway, Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, Joanna Kulig and Evan Ellison.

That particular brand of intimate, personal storytelling, the kind the director of “Maggie’s Plan” and “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee” is known for, is a challenging prospect for financiers weighing up a Darwinian landscape for cinemagoing. It’s why Miller’s latest, “She Came to Me,” which opens the Berlin Film Festival on Thursday, feels like a triumph for the American director, who marks her return to narrative features after an eight-year hiatus. “Making a movie like this is actually meaningful for independent cinema — it’s meaningful that we got it made,” said Miller. “Every time that happens, it’s a real victory, because it is very difficult … it’s hard to get personal films made.”

Bruce Springsteen and The National‘s Bryce Dessner have collaborated on a new song for Rebecca Miller’s film She Came To Me called ‘Addicted To Romance’.The romantic comedy starring Peter Dinklage as a moody classical composer is due to have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival this week.‘Addicted To Romance’, which was written and performed by Springsteen and orchestrated by Dessner, who also worked on the film’s score, will be heard for the first time during the screening on February 16.Speaking of Springsteen’s contribution to the film, Miller said (via Variety): “I really love Bruce’s music. In a blockbuster landscape dominated by franchise properties, it was only a matter of time before the Autobots invaded theaters again. Though Michael Bay relinquished creative control of the series over five years ago, 2018’s “Bumblebee” was a surprising hit with fans and critics alike.

 star Lena Headey tied the knot with actor Marc Menchaca in a gorgeous ceremony in Puglia, Italy, over the weekend, in what turned out to be a mini  reunion.The wedding was attended by several  alum, including Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Michelle Fairley (Catelyn Stark), Conleth Hill (Varys) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), who attended the wedding alongside her husband, Joe Jonas.In photos shared by a wedding guest, Headey, 49, who played Cersei Lannister on the HBO series, wore a white gown with spaghetti straps, a veil and a pair of pink and white roses in her hair.Headey's floral hairpiece matched a flower arch, while her bouquet served as a pop of color, adding lavender and copper tones throughout.Menchaca, meanwhile, opted for a blue, patterned suit, which he paired with a copper-colored tie. Per the guests' photos, the 47-year-old actor later accessorized his wedding day look with a wide-brimmed fedora.The  actor, who starred as Russ Langmore on the beloved Netflix series, has been linked to Headey since January 2020, after they were spotted attending the L.A.

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and Ozark actor Marc Menchaca may have finally got their happy ending – unlike their on-screen characters – as they have reportedly married in a beautiful Italian wedding.  The Hollywood stars have never confirmed their relationship publicly but were first pictured together at an event in 2020.  Since then, it appears their romance has blossomed behind the scenes as photos are circulating on social media of the two on what seems to be their wedding day in the Italian city of Puglia.
