“Moffie” was all over recent awards shows, earning nominations from the BAFTA Awards for the best debut from a British writer/director/producer, Venice Film Festival’s Queer Lion, London Film Festival for best film, and the British Independent Film Awards for best director.

Lionsgate has acquired the UK rights to Living, starring Bill Nighy, ahead of production set for the U.K. in spring 2021.

Lionsgate has taken UK distribution rights on Living, the Bill Nighy-starring English-language adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s classic Ikiru.

Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and MediaIFC Films has nabbed North American rights to South African Oliver Hermanus’ “Moffie,” a queer war film that is set against the backdrop of a South African border war. The indie studio will release the film in April 2021.Hermanus directs the film and adapted the story from André Carl van der Merwe’s autobiographical 2006 novel with Jack Sidey.

BAFTA and Golden Globe winner Bill Nighy is set to take the lead in Living, an English-language adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's 1952 Japanese classic Ikiru from Nobel and Booker Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro, author of The Remains of The Day and Never Let Me Go. Oliver Hermanus (Moffie, The Endless River) will direct the feature, heading to next month's American Film Market (AFM) with Rocket Science.

Upcoming local drama ‘Moffie’ has already received rave reviews around the world. ‘Moffie’ is the story of a young conscript who battles to survive compulsory service in apartheid-South Africa’s military while confronting toxic masculinity and coming to terms with his sexual orientation.

In recent weeks, in anticipation of Moffie’s South African premiere on 13 March, director Oliver Hermanus shared and discussed the film with a select few local gay men for whom he has great admiration, and sat down to talk about their experience of the word “moffie.”

After increasing public demand, the team behind award-winning director Oliver Hermanus’ film, MOFFIE, today released its haunting recreation of the iconic song “Sugar Man” – a month to the day of the film’s South African release on 13 March.
