Greg Evans Associate Editor/Broadway CriticRoyana Black, an actress who made her Broadway debut at age 10 in Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs and, five years later, took the title role in the 1988 sitcom Raising Miranda, died July 14 in Los Angeles of acute myeloid leukemia. She was 47.Her death was announced by her family.

Bruce Jay Friedman, novelist and screenwriter who earned an Oscar nomination for the screenplay of the Tom Hanks film “Splash,” died Wednesday at the age of 90, his son told The New York Times. The cause of death is not yet known.

With Broadway now shut down until Labor Day due to the coronavirus pandemic, Neil Simon’s play “Plaza Suite” has been pushed back a year. The revival will now run from March 19, 2021, through July 18 at the Hudson Theatre, with David Byrne’s “American Utopia” returning to the theater this fall.
