We don’t often think of actor Michael Shannon for his comedic performances, but an upcoming film from Saban Films and Paramount Pictures is allowing him to flex those tools after being mostly known for playing villainous or intense characters. The new film “A Little White Lie” sees Shannon play a new New York handyman mistaken for a famous writer who has been avoiding public appearances for 20 years and is expected to help boost a literary festival.
There are a lot of people offering opinions about the tragedy last year on the set of the Western, “Rust.” Without going through all of the news, this is basically about how Alec Baldwin somehow had a live round in a gun he was using on set, and allegedly discharged the weapon, resulting in the death of cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. Just recently, it was revealed that Baldwin, along with other members of the “Rust” crew are facing very real criminal charges for their actions that day.

Despite what you may read in the New York Times today, I nor anyone at Deadline ever wrote a review declaring that Showtime’s George & Tammy had an “intense storyline.”
George & Tammy, starring Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon, premiered Sunday with 3.3 million Live+Same Day linear viewers across Showtime, Paramount Network and CMT. Originally produced for Spectrum Originals with a second window on Paramount Network and Paramount+, the music drama was recently picked up by Showtime after Spectrum pulled away from original series.
A Doll’s House, the upcoming Broadway revival starring Jessica Chastain, will begin its 16-week limited engagement with previews at the Hudson Theatre on Monday, February 13, 2023 ahead of a Thursday, March 9 opening night.
Country music is brimming with stories of love and loss, whether in the storytelling lyrics or the famous figures who went on to become legends. George Jones and Tammy Wynette’s romance first captured hearts (and wallets) in the 1960s, and the decades-long collaboration is an emotional roller coaster ripe for the biopic treatment.
Country music drama limited series George & Tammy, starring Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) and Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals), is headed to Showtime.
Jessica Chastain and Abe Sylvia‘s long-in-the-works “George & Tammy” limited series finally has a real home, Showtime. And it will be getting a “Yellowstone”-powered kickoff when the first episode is simulcast following the episode of that Paramount Television Network hit on December 4.

The new movie Amsterdam has been in theaters for just one week, but it’s already been deemed a massive failure due to its disappointing box office performance.
While tentpoles resuscitated moviegoing this past summer with pics like Top Gun: Maverick, it’s true that the more, adult-skewing fare is having a much harder time now. No where was this more true than with David O. Russell’s Amsterdam which rivals believed had a shot at opening to $12M-$15M this past weekend based on the period absurdist comedy’s glossy ensemble of Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek, Robert De Niro, Anya Taylor Joy, Taylor Swift, Michael Shannon (the list doesn’t stop…).
David O Russell’s oeuvre, it’s that great film-making chops (Three Kings!) meet wildly divergent outcomes (often within a single film); Russell will fall out with some of his cast, and said cast will be star-filled. His latest is Amsterdam, a period crime romp led by Margot Robbie, Christian Bale and John David Washington, abetted by Robert De Niro, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Rami Malek, Mike Myers, Andrea Riseborough, Zoe Saldaña, Michael Shannon and Taylor Swift. Results may vary.
Jessica Chastain went to great lengths to get in character to play Tammy Wynette for Paramount’s George & Tammy.
Jordan Moreau “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is slowly getting ready to take a bite out of the weekend box office. It earned $575,000 from 3,453 theaters in Thursday previews, while David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam” picked up $550,000 million from 3,005 theaters. Sony’s live-action/CGI hybrid, co-financed by TSG, is a family-friendly movie about a singing crocodile, starring Grammy-nominated artist Shawn Mendes as the titular reptile. The studio projects an opening haul of $11 million to $12 million, with some projections belting out upwards of $15 million. With a budget of $50 million, it will need plenty of support from kids and families over the fall to snap up a profit. The cast includes Javier Bardem as Hector P. Valenti, Lyle’s flamboyant owner, Brett Gelman as Mr. Grumps and Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy and Winslow Fegley as the Primm family. The Primms move to a new house in New York City, where they discover Lyle, a saltwater crocodile with the voice of a high-end recording artist, living in their attic.
Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon first costarred together in 2011’s “Take Shelter.” Now, they’ll costar again in a very different project: “George & Tammy,” a miniseries about country music legends Tammy Wynette and George Jones for Paramount Network. The series is a long-time passion project for Chastain, who first signed onto the project in 2011 when creator Abe Sylvia wanted to make it a film.
Every role is designed for Leonardo DiCaprio, according to Christian Bale.
“Amsterdam” is a star-studded film. Its cast includes (deep breath) Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Zoe Saldaña, Andrea Riseborough, Rami Malek and Robert De Niro (among others). It’s a lively, spirited historical mystery about World War I and a vast right-wing conspiracy on American shores. But the movie becomes even more electric when two stars appear on screen together: Mike Myers and Michael Shannon. The two performers play spies who assist our heroes, first in the title city and later in New York, as they attempt to thwart a growing threat to democracy.
Sony Pictures has set Jonás Cuarón as the director for El Muerto, which will star Bad Bunny, also known as Benito A Martínez Ocasio, Deadline has learned.
EXCLUSIVE:With the final season of The Walking Dead coming to an end, longtime series star Norman Reedus looks to have found his follow-up project as he is set to join the ensemble cast of the Jeff Nichols drama The Bikeriders at New Regency. Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook and Damon Herriman are already on board. Nichols will direct the pic, which is a fictional story inspired by the photography of Danny Lyon and his 1967 book The Bikeriders.
“The world is beautiful, this world is luscious and precise, and it takes specific people to create a living world,” director David O. Russell says in a new exclusive clip about the craft of his latest film, “Amsterdam.” While the film, which comes out this week on October 7, has been lauded for its sprawling, A-list cast—Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, and John David Washington as the three leads, plus a cavalcade of supporting actors like Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldaña, Mike Myers, Michael Shannon, Taylor Swift, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro— there are also several superstars below the line who worked on the gorgeous-looking movie.

problematic uncle in the industry family, certain to entertain and disturb in equal measure, depending on what one is willing to overlook when the sausage is being made (or even, considering some reports, when he’s away from the factory). That the Oscar-nominated writer-director is in the mix again with the period comedy-adventure “Amsterdam” after seven years away (since 2015’s lumpy “Joy”) indicates a willingness in Hollywood to endure the reminders of his behavioral issues and to bet on the recipe of star power, emotional smarts and provocative farce that forged “Flirting with Disaster,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle.”Only the first ingredient is in evidence with “Amsterdam,” however, and no amount of wattage from Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Zoe Saldana, Anya Taylor-Joy, Rami Malek or Robert De Niro — or even an A-list B-team of Taylor Swift, Chris Rock, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola, Mike Myers and Michael Shannon — can lift this flat, unfunny genre-fluid whatsit from its performative stumbling toward contemporary relevance. At first, when it’s 1933 New York, we sense an eccentric buddy-picture in the making, centered on themes of integration and the treatment of veterans. Bale’s character (and semi-narrator) is Burt Berendsen, a scraggly, half-Catholic/half-Jewish doctor focused on new medicines for wounded Great War soldiers like himself (he lost an eye) and estranged from his status-conscious Park Avenue wife (Riseborough).
Margot Robbie "clung" to John David Washington on the set of Amsterdam because she was "scared" to work with director David O. Russell. The Australian actress stars as Valerie Voze in the upcoming period mystery comedy, which follows three friends who become the prime suspects in a murder in the 1930s.
David O. Russell is a filmmaker with an amazing track record of award-winning films.
