Caroline Brew editor Film Movement has acquired the U.S. rights to Maciek Hamela’s “In the Rearview,” following its Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival premieres. Film Movement has a theatrical release and awards campaign planned with the documentary’s producers and Polish Film Institute, which co-financed the film.

Ben Croll Film Movement will give “A Nice Jewish Boy” a home – several, in fact, as the New York-based distributor has picked up North American rights to Noé Debré’s bittersweet comedy with plans for both festival and theatrical plays later this year. Charades’ Hélène Espeisse brokered the deal with Film Movement president Michael Rosenberg.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Bertrand Bonello‘s “Coma,” which won a prize at the Berlin Film Festival in 2022, has been acquired by Film Movement for North American distribution. The film follows a teenager who is stuck at home during once of France’s strict early-pandemic lockdowns.

EXCLUSIVE: A contemporary scripted drama series inspired by the life of country music sensation Walker Hayes is headed to the small screen. The production arm of Untitled Entertainment has acquired Hayes’ life rights for the project, with Hayes set to executive produce alongside Untitled.

EXCLUSIVE: Film Movement has taken North American rights to the drama, How I Learned to Fly, starring Marcus Scribner (Andre Johnson Jr. on ABC-TV’s Black-ish), Lonnie Chavis (This is Us, Lawman:Bass Reeves) with appearances by Method Man and Cedric the Entertainer. The movie will be getting a limited theatrical release in December, followed by a release on all leading home entertainment and digital platforms.

Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Film Movement has acquired North American rights to Spanish writer-director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren’s “20,000 Species of Bees,” a tender drama about growing up trans that recently won a Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear. The New York-based distributor is planning to roll out this topical title — in which the child protagonist explores her gender identity — in U.S. theaters in late 2023, followed by a wide release on all leading home entertainment and digital platforms. The announcement was made by Film Movement president Michael Rosenberg and Jennyfer Gautier, the head of international sales of Paris-based distributor Luxbox.

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor The North American rights to Firas Khoury’s coming-of-age drama “Alam” (The Flag) have been sold to Film Movement. The film premiered at Toronto Film Festival, and will be playing in competition at Rome Film Festival on Tuesday. The first trailer debuts here (below). MPM Premium is handling international sales. Michael Rosenberg of Film Movement said: “Set among a group of Palestinian teens living in Israel, Firas Khoury’s debut feature marries universal themes of growing up with the complex political awakening young Palestinians are forced to undergo living under occupation. Film Movement is excited to bring this tender coming of age drama to North American audiences next year.”

Julie Cohen and Betsy West’s Julia Child documentary JULIA is to be given a linear TV showing on CNN later this month.

And that failure to take precautions risks misfortune.The story, penned by writer and first-time feature director Park Kang, sees the father of a newborn attend the funeral of an ex-girlfriend.

Los Angeles-based management and production company The Cartel has unveiled a multi-movie development and production deal with the management company Untitled Entertainment. The agreement will see the partners develop and produce 10 movies for TV and theatrical release and international distribution over the next two years.
