Lashana Lynch is set to star as Bob Marley’s wife Rita in an upcoming Paramount biopic about the reggae legend’s life and career. The actress, 34, recently appeared alongside Daniel Craig in No Time to Die and opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the latest Dr. Strange film.

Bob Marley: One Love has been released – you can watch it above.Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, the upcoming biopic centres on the life of the iconic reggae singer, from the early days of his career to his death in 1981.The film, which is set for release on January 12, 2024, is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard) and written by Zach Baylin, Frank E. Flowers and Terence Winter.

Marley and his legacy, as portrayed by “Peaky Blinders” and “The OA” star Kingsley Ben-Adir. It jumps between Marley playing to concert after concert of adoring fans as the legendary artist’s music plays in the background. As the trailer continues it takes on a darker tone as it delves into Jamaica’s civil war during the 1970s.It all comes to a head right before the One Love Peace Concert.

Ziggy Marley took to the stage to introduce the first footage from “Bob Marley: One Love.” The film, due for release on January 12, 2024, comes from writer/director Reinaldo Marcus Green, who previously helmed the Oscar-winning “King Richard.” Kingsley Ben-Adir stars as Bob Marley alongside Lashana Lynch, James Norton, Tosin Cole, Anthony Welsh, Michael Gandolfini, Umi Myers and Nadine Marshall.  Robert Teitel, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner, Ziggy Marley, Rita Marley, Cedella Marley are producers.We saw a massive concert audience waiting for the man himself to appear, followed by Marley preaching the value of reggae music amid otherwise conventional musical biopic imagery set to “Jammin with You.” A moment of gun violence kicks off the “downfall” portion of the trailer, while Marley intones that “My life is not important, my life is for the people.” “One Man, One Message, One Revolution, One Legend, One Love” the onscreen text declares.

Bob Marley biopic.It was first announced back in 2018 that a biopic, produced by Ziggy Marley, was in the works, before Reinaldo Marcus Green, director of Oscar-nominated tennis drama King Richard, was revealed to be attached to the film last year.Ben-Adir, who most recently portrayed activist Malcolm X in One Night in Miami, will portray Marley in the as-yet-untitled film by Paramount Pictures.Speaking to Collider last year, director Green revealed that the film will focus on the making of Marley’s classic album ‘Exodus’ with The Wailers, which he recorded after moving to London following an unsuccessful assassination attempt in Jamaica.Of the Marley family’s input on the film, Green added: “Ziggy Marley is, right, my point of contact for the film, and producer on the project.
