Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large Ken Marino credits his pal Adam Scott for making the unlikely and unexpected “Party Down” revival a reality. “Adam helped guide this and make this happen in a real way,” he tells Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. “I think everybody in that cast recognized how special it was, and to just kind of go back and to get to do some more, to be with these people again, creatively, it’s a real gift.” The first two seasons of “Party Down” aired on Starz in 2009 and 2010; the revival takes place a decade after the show’s last episode and features the returns of Marino as Ron, the slightly clueless catering manager who now owns the business — well, running it out of his van — and Scott as Henry, the sardonic failed actor who’s now a teacher and working on the side with Party Down to help pay for his alimony.

After waiting 13 years for the long-discussed Season 3 revival of the Starz comedy Party Down, will fans have to wait just as long for another installment?

All this time, while promoting the third season of the cater-waiter cult comedy — which returned to Starz 13 years after its initial cancellation — the cast and co-creators have fielded questions about the absence of Lizzy Caplan, the only original star to not appear in Season 3.  “Lizzy was booked throughout the entire window that we had,” creator and EP John Enbom previously told Variety. “She was very bummed that she was not able to join us. And we were bummed, too — we really liked working with her.”

The scrappy comedy got creative with a small budget, centering episodes around a corporate picnic or a one-man birthday party, which didn’t require hiring extras. Showrunner and co-creator John Enbom says the team wouldn’t pitch a “dog wedding,” for example, because they knew they “couldn’t afford to hire 20 animal trainers.”

A date has finally been set for the return of Party Down, the revival of the cult comedy series from 2009-10. Starz will debut the laugher at midnight on Friday, February 24 on its app and streaming platforms. Its linear debut is set for later that night at 9 PM ET/PT on Starz.

Caroline Framke Chief TV Critic It stands to reason that “Reboot” is immediately an entertainment biz turducken of industry lingo and in-jokes. From “Modern Family” creator Steven Levitan, the new Hulu series depicts the reboot — also airing on Hulu — of a family sitcom and all the behind-the-scenes drama that inevitably follows. Levitan, whose credits include “Just Shoot Me” and “Wings,” obviously knows his way around a multi-cam, and his pilot co-writer John Enbom made a meal in “Party Down” of exploiting the seediest corners of Hollywood ambition. The combination of the two sensibilities makes for a (mostly) realistic peek into life on a studio lot, but that’s probably a given. That it ends up (mostly) toothless comes as a genuine surprise.

Kate Aurthur editorQuinta Brunson, creator and star of the hit ABC sitcom “Abbott Elementary,” will guest star on the upcoming Starz revival of “Party Down.” The appearance inadvertently leaked during an April 21 taping for Variety‘s Actors on Actors series, in which Brunson was paired with Adam Scott, of both Apple TV+’s “Severance” and the revived Starz series, which ran for two seasons in 2009 and 2010.During the conversation, it became clear that Brunson and Scott knew one another. At one point, Brunson said, “After doing Janine for months straight on ‘Abbott,’ I remember getting so excited to come do another thing in a way that almost felt juvenile,” to which Scott replied, “But that was announced, right? We can say it — you’re guest starring on ‘Party Down.'” “I don’t think that was announced,” Brunson replied.

Paul Reiser, who recently headlined a revival of his popular 1990s sitcom Mad About You, has joined Reboot, Hulu’s upcoming comedy series about a reboot of a 1990s sitcom.

Jennifer Garner, James Marsden and more are joining as new characters. They’ll join original cast members Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino and others as they reprise their roles from the first two seasons. Garner, whose last starring TV role was on HBO’s, joins as Evie, “a successful producer of studio franchise movies, who, in the wake of a breakup, is reconsidering her life choices.

Its dysfunctional cast is forced back together and now must deal with their unresolved issues in today’s fast-changing world.Levitan is the creator, executive producer, and showrunner and also wrote the pilot story.
