Hot Chip have returned with their first new music of 2023 – listen to ‘Fire Of Mercy’, featuring Yunè Pinku, below.The band’s new track is their first since the release of their most recent full-length album, ‘Freakout/Release’, which came out last August.Discussing the new track, the band’s Joe Goddard said: “Fire of Mercy’ relates to the central concept of William Blake’s ‘Songs of Experience’ – it bemoans the corruption that inevitably comes from adulthood and longs for a return to the purity of childhood.”Yunè Pinku added: “Massive honour to work with Hot Chip as they’re huge legends within the electronic world. When they played me Fire of Mercy and asked me to jump on the track, I was thrilled to work with them.”Listen to the track below.Later this year, Hot Chip will play a show at new London venue Drumsheds on October 21.

Talk Show have shared an energetic new song called ‘Leather’, taken from upcoming EP ‘Touch The Ground’.The London quartet’s new EP is set to come out on September 23 via Missing Piece, and is produced by Hot Chip duo Joe Goddard and Al Doyle.Speaking about the new track, frontman Harrison Swann said: “[Drummer] Chloe [MacGregor] took the lead on this one bringing a big breakbeat style drum part, and we just ran with it.“Vocally it felt natural to sit back and let the other parts sit more at the front. With the sharp guitar and heavy bass lines, we didn’t wanna compete with each other, so it helped having small repeating phrases, fitting in the gaps. We were trying to build an atmosphere, something dynamic, rather than tell a story.”Swann added: “We wanted something that had a bit of bite to it, that was really gonna show what we’d actually been listening to for inspiration.

Written and recorded in the band’s Relax & Enjoy studio in east London, the making of the album was particularly inspired by the band’s regular live cover of Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’.“The idea of being out of control is always there in dance music, in a positive sense,” Hot Chip’s Al Doyle said in a press release in relation to the cover’s influence on the new album, with frontman Alexis Taylor adding: “By the time we were able to be back together, we were turning on a tap and having a lot of ideas being poured out quite quickly.”In regards to the lyrical themes of ‘Freakout/Release’, Joe Goddard said: “We were living through a period where it was very easy to feel like people were losing control of their lives in different ways. Talk Show have returned with their new single ‘Underworld’, the first preview of a new EP which was produced by Hot Chip‘s Joe Goddard and Al Doyle.The band’s new track comes ahead of the release of the ‘Touch The Ground’ EP, which is set to come out next year.“This was the first of the “new batch” we started with,” vocalist Harrison Swann said of ‘Underworld’ in a statement.
