Medical drama Good Sam has been canceled at CBS.

EXCLUSIVE: Jane the Virgin alumna Yael Grobglas is reuniting with the showrunner and studio behind the popular CW dramedy series. Grobglas is set to recur on the upcoming CBS drama series Matlock, headlined by Kathy Bates, which comes from Jane the Virgin developer Jennie Snyder Urman and CBS Studios.

BreAnna Bell CBS has ordered three shows, “Matlock,” “Elsbeth,” and “Poppa’s House” to series for the 2023-2024 broadcast season. The network made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon. Kathy Bates will star and executive produce the “Matlock” reboot which follows a now successful Madeline Matlock (Bates) as she rejoins the work force at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from within. The series also stars Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, Jason Ritter as Julian, David Del Rio as Billy, Leah Lewis as Sarah.

BreAnna Bell Jason Ritter has signed on to join CBS’s “Matlock” pilot, Variety has learned. He’ll portray Julian, the son of the head of the firm, who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. However, he’s not to be underestimated. “Diligent and persistent with a lot to prove, he’s at odds with prioritizing his family and balancing his career. He always considers the good of the firm, even if it pushes the boundaries between his work and personal life,” reads the character’s description. Ritter joins previously announced cast members including Kathy Bates as Madeline Matlock, Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, David Del Rio as Billy, Leah Lewis as Sarah.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterLauren Lapkus and Krysta Rodriguez are set for the lead roles in the CBS multi-cam comedy pilot “Sober Companion,” Variety has learned.Rodriguez will play Eliza, described as a fun-loving, quick-witted alcoholic who runs a bookstore/bar with her uncle in New Orleans. After one too many run-ins with the law, she is assigned a court-appointed Sober Companion who will force her to confront her demons, get her act together, and stay sober, all while driving her completely nuts.Lapkus will play Shelley, Eliza’s Sober Companion.

Sophia Bush with with her pals, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz, on Wednesday's episode of Good Sam, the freshman medical drama she stars in and executive produces. In the hour, Burton and Lenz play sisters Gretchen and Amy Taylor, respectively, who cross paths with Dr. Sam Griffith (Bush) when Amy is admitted as a patient at Detroit's Lakeshore Sentinel Hospital. The onscreen reunion came about after Bush called up her friends with an idea for them to make guest appearances on the show.

Jennifer Maas TV Business WriterCBS has ordered comedy pilots from “Jane the Virgin” creator Jennie Snyder Urman and Lonely Island crew Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone.The Urman-produced multi-cam project is called “Sober Companion” and follows Eliza, a hot-mess alcoholic who owns a bar with her uncle in New Orleans. She is forced to get her life together when the court appoints her an exhaustingly upbeat sober companion with whom she has to live 24/7.The potential series is based on a story by Urman, Gracie Glassmeyer and David Rosenthal.

CBS is going back into the vault for one of its latest comedy pilots.

More Flowers of the Attic is coming to Lifetime. The network has greenlighted Flowers In The Attic: The Origin, a four-part prequel miniseries event starring Jemima Rooper (Gold Digger) and Max Irons (Condor), from Paul Sciarrotta (Jane the Virgin), Jennie Snyder Urman and Joanna Klein’s Sutton St. Productions and CBS Studios.  Flowers in the Attic: The Origin is an A+E Studios production in association with Sutton St. and CBS Studios.

Jennie Snyder Urman has signed an extension to her overall deal with CBS Television Studios.
