Joe Otterson TV ReporterCatherine Zeta-Jones has been cast in the upcoming “National Treasure” series at Disney Plus, Variety has learned.Zeta-Jones joins previously announced cast members Lisette Alexis, Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, and Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith in the series continuation of the film franchise of the same name. Production is set to begin this month in Baton Rouge, LA.The series focuses on a young heroine, Jess (Alexis), a brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.Zeta-Jones will portray Billie, described as a badass billionaire, black-market antiquities expert, and treasure hunter who lives by her own code.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterCBS has given out a pilot order to a drama about convicts that fight wildfires in California.Titled “Cal Fire,” the potential series focuses on young convict Bode Donovan. Seeking redemption and a shortened sentence, he joins a firefighting program that returns him to his small Northern California hometown, where he and other inmates work alongside elite firefighters to extinguish massive blazes across the region.“SEAL Team” star Max Thieriot co-wrote the story for the pilot and serves as an executive producer. The show is inspired by his experiences growing in Northern California fire country.

EXCLUSIVE: CBS has given a pilot green light to Cal Fire, a drama from SEAL Team star Max Thieriot, Grey’s Anatomy alums Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Studios where the company is based. This is CBS’ second in-cycle drama pilot this season, joining a mother-and-son legal drama from Scott Prendergast and Dr. Phil McGraw.

Marg Helgenberger is eyeing a possible return to the CSI franchise with a reprisal of her role as Catherine Willows, sources tell Deadline. Helgenberg would appear in the upcoming second season of CSI: Vegas, the sequel to the groundbreaking 2000 series, in which Helgenberger starred for the first 12 seasons.

After a bidding war with multiple potential buyers, New Republic Pictures has won the rights to John Glenn’s spec script “Cut & Run,” which has Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star and produce through his Nine Stories Productions banner, the company announced on Tuesday.New Republic Founder Brian Oliver and president Bradley Fischer will also serve as producers alongside Glenn.“Cut & Run” centers on a group of thieves using high powered speedboats to rob superyachts, complications ensue when the thieves end up stealing the wrong thing from the wrong group of people. New Republic and Nine Stories also recently announced their adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel “Oblivion Song,” which also has Gyllenhaal attached to star.Gyllenhaal will next be seen in Michael Bay’s “Ambulance,” which Universal Pictures will release April 8. More than a year ago, it was reported that Jon Bernthal was signed to star in a new TV series inspired by the film, “American Gigolo.” At the time, not much was known about the series, specifically how involved the film’s writer-director, Paul Schrader, would be. Well, according to the filmmaker’s recent interview with GQ, he’s definitely not involved, and he honestly doesn’t know how a TV series based on the film would work in 2021.

Face/Off actress Romy Walthall has died at the age of 57, her son Morgan Krantz confirmed to Variety.Walthall was best known for her roles in Face/Off and The House of Usher. Krantz confirmed she died on May 19, after experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.Her first major film role was in Thief of Hearts, Jerry Bruckheimer’s 1984 thriller.
