Young girls hide from drug cartels in Prayers For The Stolen, Mexico’s powerful entry to the International Feature Oscar race. Directed by Tatiana Huezo and loosely based on Jennifer Clement’s novel, the film, which screens at AFI Fest on November 14 and releases theatrically and on Netflix in the U.S.

Mexico has become the latest country to make its submission to this year’s International Oscar race, selecting Tatiana Huezo’s Prayers For The Stolen.

Emiliano Granada Adapted from Jennifer Clement’s “Noche de Fuego,” “Prayers for the Stolen” marks Tatiana Huezo jump into feature fiction. The film follows the lives of three girls in a town secluded in the Mexican mountains near a poppy field and a mining area.The girls grow protected and hidden from the constant violence that silently takes over the town.

Director Julie Taymor is officially slated to add another film to her increasingly impressive and highly overlooked oeuvre. From Deadline, Taymor is attached to direct “Gun Love,” which has been adapted by screenwriter Marissa Kate Goodhill from Jennifer Clement’s novel of the same title.
