A fired star of the hit Showtime series The Chi who was also featured in the Academy Award-nominated film Straight Outta Compton has been arrested on drugs and weapons charges on Mississippi's coast. Jason Mitchell, who portrayed Brandon Johnson on the cable series' first two seasons, was arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop in Gulfport, Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said in a news release.

Jason Mitchell, a rising acting star who was featured in the Oscar-nominated film “Straight Outta Compton” and who held a role on the hit Showtime series “The Chi" before he was fired last year, was arrested on drugs and weapons charges on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. The actor was taken into custody on Wednesday following a traffic stop in Gulfport, Miss., Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said in a media release.

Jason Mitchell, the actor best known for his work in Straight Outta Compton and the Showtime series The Chi, was arrested this week.

Actor Jason Mitchell has been arrested in Mississippi on felony weapons and drug charges.

Tiffany Boone on Monday took to Instagram to address her 2018 exit from Showtime's The Chi. The actress left the series after making sexual misconduct claims against her co-star Jason Mitchell, who was subsequently fired from the series."You don’t carelessly leave a 'hit show' that is praised by your community," Boone wrote on Instagram.
