EXCLUSIVE: It was announced today that Affion Crockett (Wild ‘N Out, Black-ish) will produce and star in new comedy, A Hip Hop Story. The film also stars Cedric the Entertainer, Damaine Radcliff (Glory Road, Rambo: Last Blood), Jevin Smith, Damien Dante Wayans, Lil Rel Howery, Wayne Brady, Lil Mama, and Norm Nixon, Jr.

Charna Flam Emmy-winning TV and film editor John Gordon Wright, who cut notable titles including “Speed,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “X-Men” and “The Passion of the Christ,” died April 20 at his home in Calabasas after a battle with cancer. He was 79. Wright, who worked frequently with directors including John McTiernan and Mel Gibson, received an Emmy award for his work on “Sarah, Plain and Tall” as well Oscar nominations for his work on “The Hunt for Red October” and “Speed.” More than 50 years ago, Wright began his prolific career as a film editor, first working at The James Company. In 1973, Wright contributed to the TV movie “Strange Creatures of the Night” and soon moved into feature editing. Soon after Wright edited for “Life Goes to War: Hollywood and the Home Front” and “Acapulco Gold.”

Mehcad Brooks is joining Law & Order in season 22 of the NBC drama. He will help fill the void left by Anthony Anderson, who opted not to return after reprising his role in season 21 as Detective Kevin Bernard from the series’ original run.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterMehcad Brooks is suiting up to play a detective in “Law and Order” Season 22 at NBC, Variety has learned.Brooks joins a returning cast that includes franchise veteran Sam Waterston as well as Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy, and Odelya Halevi. It was previously announced that Anthony Anderson, who returned for Season 21, would not be back for Season 22.

Bettina Gilois was a screenwriter best known for her work on the HBO film “Bessie” and Disney’s “Glory Road.”Born in Germany, Gilois worked with Hollywood notables including Jerry Bruckheimer, Norman Jewison, and Robert Zemeckis. In 2006, she received a Black Reel Awards nomination and a Humanitas Prize nomination for her screenplay for “Glory Road,” a dramatization of Texas Western College’s historic all-black basketball team’s road to the NCAA finals.
