Wizards of Waverly Place is creating its own universe as Disney Channel has officially greenlit a sequel series Wizards (w/t) with original stars Selena Gomez and David Henrie reprising their roles and taking on executive producer duties. Production on the new series begins In April in Los Angeles with a premiere tentatively scheduled for later this year on Disney Channel and Disney+.

Selena Gomez and David Henrie is currently in the works. According to Deadline, Disney had ordered a pilot of the new series that will reportedly include Gomez, 31, as a guest star, while Henrie, 34, will be reprising his role as Justin Russo as a season regular.

Disney Branded Television has ordered a pilot for the follow-up, which is executive produced by original stars Selena Gomez and her small screen sibling David Henrie. Gomez will guest star in the pilot for Disney Channel as the character that helped launch her career, Alex Russo, with David Henrie reprising the role of Justin Russo as a series regular. He is joined by new cast members Janice LeAnn Brown (Disney’s Just Roll with It), Alkaio Thiele (Call Me Kat) and Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess).

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Bryan Cogman has signed on to serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer on the new “Zorro” series starring Wilmer Valderrama at Disney+, Variety has confirmed. The series was originally reported as being in development at the streamer in December 2021. Per the official logline, “When tragedy strikes his family, privileged caballero Diego de la Vega (Valderrama) returns to his hometown of El Pueblo de Los Angeles and discovers a culture of corruption and injustice that will lead him to take on the mantle of the masked vigilante Zorro — America’s first true superhero.” Cogman joins fellow executive producers Gary Marsh, Valderrama, and John Gertz on the series. Disney Branded Television will produce.

According to AJ Michalka, who comprises one half of the sibling pop duo Aly & AJ, former Disney Channel head Gary Marsh originally offered the part to her sister, Aly Michalka. AJ also claimed that the part of Lilly Truscott, Hannah’s best friend, was offered to her. AJ shared the information in a post from the duo’s joint Twitter account, which references “Hannah Montana” casting director Lisa London, who revealed other actors considered for the lead role in a viral TikTok video.
