In Warner Bros.' Judas and the Black Messiah, Daniel Kaluuya plays Fred Hampton, the former chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party and a co-founder of the Rainbow Coalition, whose killing in a 1969 raid was the result of an FBI counterintelligence operation. That government plot placed a petty thief named William O'Neal (played in the film by LaKeith Stanfield) undercover to infiltrate the party's dealings and undermine its community organizing.

Kaluuya, who portrays Black Panther Party Chairman Fred Hampton, will campaign for best supporting actor while Stanfield, as FBI informant Bill O’Neal, will seek consideration in best actor.
We have yet to see “Judas and the Black Messiah,” but there’s some serious awards buzz surrounding the upcoming film from co-writer/director Shaka King. And much of that early acclaim seems to stem from the incredible cast the filmmaker was able to bring together, led by Daniel Kaluuya in the role of Fred Hampton, a real-life activist and political leader within the Black Panther organization during the ‘60s.
