The “one last job” trope has been used in crime films for decades. But sometimes, a film can rise above its routine premise and deliver something special.

The premise of Howard Hawks’ classic western “Rio Bravo” is a simple, yet timelessly effective little potboiler. So much so, that it’s been retooled over and over again in any setting and the idea never quite loses its urgency.

Ladies and gentlemen, Joe Carnahan, Frank Grillo, & Gerard Bulter have returned to re-light the flame of old-school R-rated badass action with their new film “Copshop.” The film follows a con man (Grillo) who gets himself arrested to avoid dying at the hands of a frightful hitman (Butler). In true Carnahan fashion, blood, guts, and explosions occur, and the actors chew the hell out of the scenery.

Filmmaker Joe Carnahan (“Narc,” “The Grey“) is back with the action pic “Copshop” with a cast that includes seasoned action veterans such as Scottish actor Gerard Bulter and Frank Grillo. The film is opening this weekend, and Carnahan has been noticeably absent from the press.

If you’re a fan of horror films, you know the name James DeMonaco. He’s the writer, director, and overall creative mastermind behind “The Purge” franchise.

If you think about it, there are a lot of similarities between Frank Grillo and Sylvester Stallone. Both are badass action stars that have made long careers out of being the toughest dude in the room when appearing on screen.

Look, I know people might be surprised to hear this, but it’s true–I’m an avid fan of the ‘Purge’ franchise. Even though the films are often seen as micro-budget horror-thrillers that aren’t top-tier entertainment, I’ll defend them to my dying breath.

EXCLUSIVE: Captain America and The Purge star Frank Grillo is set to star in action movie Hounds Of War for Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment (Independence Day: Resurgence), which will sell the movie internationally.

Saban Films has acquired the North American and UK rights to “Ida Red” starring Frank Grillo, Melissa Leo and Josh Hartnett, the distributor announced on Thursday.
