The 29th Critics Choice Awards took place in California on Sunday (January 14), with Oppenheimer stealing the show taking home eight gongs.

Lily Gladstone opened up backstage at the Golden Globes on Sunday about her decision to speak Blackfeet — the language of her heritage — in her acceptance speech for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture.

In accepting the award for by a female actor in a motion picture (drama) for their portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in Killers of the Flower Moon, Gladstone became the first Indigenous woman to win a Golden Globe.The actor, who uses she/they pronouns, gave a heartfelt acceptance speech, which began in Blackfeet language. They reflected on the groundbreaking nature of the win.

The cultural phenomenon that was Barbenheimer has continued to smash its way into awards season, with both “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” named in 15 categories, including best film and director. But joining the two with 15 slots, making it a three-way tie going into the final nominations is “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Last year, only “All Quiet on the Western Front” earned 15 longlist places, with the film going on to dominate the awards ceremony (and winning best film).
