Elliott Smith‘s pre-solo band Heatmiser has announced the forthcoming release of a new rarities compilation.Teaming up with Third Man Records, ‘The Music of Heatmiser’ will feature 29 songs. Heatmiser originally distributed the new compilation as a 6-song cassette at local record stores and shows as a way to promote the band ahead of the release of their debut album, 1993’s ‘Dead Air’.Co-founding singer-guitarist Neil Gust revealed that this compilation came together thanks to the band’s drummer Tony Lash.

Kate Nash has today (March 12) shared a whimsical new single, ‘Millions Of Heartbeats’ – check it out below.The single is the latest from her upcoming new album, ‘9 Sad Symphonies’, following on from the recently released ‘Change’. The album will be released on June 21 via Kill Rock Stars, an independent label based in the US (Bikini Kill, Elliott Smith, Sleater-Kinney).It’s Nash’s fifth album and the first in over nine years and you can pre-order the album here.Nash has also announced details of a new headline show on November 28 at KOKO with tickets for the event going on sale here on March 22.It follows on from one already announced at EartH in London on May 17.

Elliott Smith in high school between 1985 and 1989 have surfaced online.The albums feature Smith and the friends he was in bands with as a teenager, playing under names including Stranger Than Fiction, A Murder Of Crows, and Harum Scarum.The six newly-surfaced records were obtained and distributed by a fan of Smith’s from Texas called Cameron McCrary. The fan contacted local record stores in Portland, where Smith spent much of his life, and hunted on Discogs to find the albums.

Phoebe Bridgers has written a heartfelt essay for the 10th anniversary edition of Bon Iver‘s second album, ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’.Justin Vernon’s critically acclaimed LP, which featured the singles ‘Calgary’, ‘Holocene’, ‘Towers’ and ‘Beth/Rest’, was released in June 2011.To celebrate the anniversary, an expanded vinyl reissue of ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’ has now been released featuring five songs from Vernon and S.
