Because it did.  Filipino audiences have known de Leon from shows such as “Amy’s Mother” and “Mirabella,” while Western audiences might have seen her on the HBO Asia series “Folklore.” But the Neon release, out on Friday, it what has put De Leon on the map. “I’m getting better roles and better offers,” she says. Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast caught up with de Leon to discuss her role as Abigail, how she built the character and working with Östlund. Listen below.

Nicole Kidman will be joined by Henry Golding, Mark Strong and Lena Olin in season two of Nine Perfect Strangers, the Hulu series that’s based on the bestselling book of the same name by Liane Moriarty.

Variety has learned that Henry Golding, Mark Strong, and Lena Olin have all signed on to the second season of the series. The show was officially renewed back in June 2023, with Nicole Kidman set to return as resort director Masha as well as in her capacity as executive producer.

Directed by Nathan Silver, the film follows a forty-something cantor who is at a personal and professional crossroads. That’s when his grade-school music teacher re-enters his life as an adult bat mitzvah student, prompting the pair to form an unusual connection.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all rights worldwide to Nathan Silver’s Between The Temples starring Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane, following its buzzy world premiere at Sundance and ahead of its upcoming international debut at the Berlinale.

IFC Films and Sapan Studio announced today that they have acquired the North American rights to Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan’s Ghostlight out of the Sundance premiere section.

The Filipino actress who landed on Hollywood’s radar last year with her turn in “Triangle of Sadness” as Abigail, a toilet cleaner who becomes the domineering leader of the pampered survivors of a cruise ship disaster, had become so deeply entwined with her character that it was starting to take a toll.

Seemingly not wasting one of its 111 offbeat minutes, sprawling and long for a comedy, but not undeserved here, Nate Silver’s “Between The Temples” begins with immediate hilarity. Ben Gottlieb (a terrific Jason Schwartzman) is a sad sack cantor living at home.

Emmy winners Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek) and Christine Baranski (The Gilded Age) have been tapped to star in the upcoming second season of Hulu‘s Nine Perfect Strangers. Also set as series regulars in the new installment are Lucas Englander (Transatlantic) and musician King Princess in her acting debut.

BreAnna Bell Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, and “The Good Fight” alum Christine Baranski have signed on to star in Season 2 of Hulu‘s “Nine Perfect Strangers” as series regulars along with Dolly De Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, King Princess, Aras Aydin and Lucas Englander. Bartlett (“The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus”) is set to portray Brian; Murphy and Baranski will take on the roles of Imogen and Victoria, respectively. Variety previously reported on Bartlett being in talks to star in June.

Hulu has officially renewed “Nine Perfect Strangers” for a second season.Nicole Kidman will return as star and executive producer, along with a new cast nearing deals to join in the Swiss Alps-set installment that includes “White Lotus” star Murray Bartlett, Liv Ullman, Dolly de Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Aras Aydin. Kidman stars as Masha, the lead counselor at Tranquillum House, who has her own traumatic past involving a dead daughter.

Hulu is proceeding with the long-rumored second season of Nine Perfect Strangers. Nicole Kidman is returning to executive producer and star, with a new group of the titular strangers around her. Two-time Oscar nominee Liv Ullman, Emmy winner Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus The Last Of Us), Dolly de Leon (Triangles Of Sadness), Maisie Richardson-Sellers (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) and Turkish actor Aras Aydin are set to star opposite Kidman, sources tell Deadline, with casting of the remaining roles ongoing.

The cast will be led by Fred Armisen, Nicholas Braun, Alison Brie, Tia Carrere, Ayo Edebiri, Jordan Firstman, Brett Goldstein and Kumail Nanjiani. “What a joy to do a table read with this group of fine actors. Together we are planning for some surprises. I don’t want to scare anyone off, but there will be some risk involved in attending this,” said Östlund.
