The Wiz is getting so close to premiering on Broadway, but first the national tour is playing in Los Angeles.

Brent Lang Executive Editor DECO Entertainment, founded by Lascelles Stephens and Deborah Cox, will join the co-producing team of the all-new revival of “The Wiz.” The production will launch a national tour on Sept. 23, 2023 in Baltimore before returning to Broadway for a limited engagement in the 2023 t0 2024 season.

Recording artist Deborah Cox and Chicago-based actress and singer Melody A. Betts have joined the Broadway-bound cast of The Wiz, with Cox taking the role of Glinda and Betts cast as Aunt Em and Evillene.

The gala, which is presented by Dexcom, will be held at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles. Howie Mandel will host the event, with Andy Grammer and Deborah Cox slated to perform, joining a talented lineup that includes R&B singer John Legend. “Marvin and I started this event in 1978, and here we are 44 years later still reaching for the brass ring. Canada’s first all-Black awards ceremony was a big moment for the two brothers who made it happen.

K.J. Yossman Ann-Helén Laestadius’ novel “Stolen” is getting a Netflix adaptation. Elle Márjá Eira (“The Sámi Have Rights”) is set to direct the feature based on a screenplay by Peter Birro (“Monica Z”). Laestadius will exec produce. “Stolen” will be Eira’s feature film debut. The film, about a young indigenous woman’s struggle in the face of xenophobia, climate change and the patriarchy, will go into production in Sápmi next year and is set to premiere in 2024. “I am over the moon!” said Laestadius. “For me as an author it is of course a dream to see my book adapted into a film and reach a whole new audience across the world. And I’m incredibly happy that Netflix – with their reach – chooses to highlight a Sami story in a big way.”
