EXCLUSIVE: New Girl alumna Hannah Simone has been tapped as a series regular opposite Gina Rodriguez on ABC’s new comedy series Not Dead Yet, from Casey Johnson and David Windsor, McG and 20th Television.

Not Dead Yet is very much alive. ABC has renewed the hit workplace comedy series starring Gina Rodriguez for a second season. The news was announced Tuesday ahead of Disney/ABC’s upfront presentation in New York.

EXCLUSIVE: David Windsor and Casey Johnson, creators and executive producers of ABC’s newly picked up series Not Dead Yet, are expanding their relationship with 20th Television, the studio behind the single-camera comedy starring Gina Rodriguez, with a three-year overall deal.

McG, who has been busy producing movies for Netflix, returned to broadcast television this season with three pilots on three different networks for his Wonderland Sound and Vision banner, True Lies, based on James Cameron’s 1994 movie, on CBS; Not Dead Yet starring Gina Rodriguez on ABC; and the Jensen Ackles-produced Supernatural prequel The Winchesters on the CW. Over the last couple of days, all three were picked up to series. Additionally, BET+ just picked up Wonderland’s series Average Joe, created by Robb Cullen and starring Deon Cole.

ABC has rounded out the series regular cast for its single-camera comedy pilot Not Dead Yet. Josh Banday (Upload), Jessica St. Clair (Avenue 5), Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Angela Gibbs (This Is Us) and Rick Glassman (As We See It) are set as leads opposite Gina Rodriguez in the pilot from The Real O’Neals creators Casey Johnson and David Windsor, McG and 20th Television.

Chrissy Metz, who co-wrote the hour that is directed by Mandy Moore.Titled «The Hill,» the episode shifts the focus to Kate as she navigates rocky terrain with her marriage to Toby and raising their young kids. In an attempt to try and rekindle the spark between their cooling, long-distance romance, in part due to evolving life/career priorities, Kate flies to San Francisco to spend the weekend with Toby.

It’s a busy morning of pilot pickups at ABC.

Ethan Shanfeld ABC has ordered the pilot for “Not Dead Yet,” a single-camera comedy from writing duo Casey Johnson and David Windsor, executive produced by McG.“Not Dead Yet” follows 40-something Nell Stevens, who is down on her luck, low on cash and newly single. When she lands the only job she can find, writing obituaries, she starts receiving life advice from an unlikely source.

A show based on the real-life friendship of longtime pals Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest is on its way.

ABC has added a second single camera pilot to its development slate.
