Angelique Jackson If it seems like Jonathan Majors is everywhere lately, that’s because he has been. Michael B. Jordan shared the first official look of Majors as boxer Damian “Dame” Anderson in “Creed III” on Monday morning, but Variety caught up with the actor over the weekend at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala and the Newport Beach Film Festival honors. When the topic of his whirlwind few months came up, Majors summed it up simply: “It’s just the season,” he told Variety’s Angelique Jackson at Newport Beach on Sunday. Well, it certainly has been Majors’ season. The actor was honored at the festival with an Artist of Distinction award for his role in “Devotion,” in which he portrays pioneering fighter pilot Jesse Brown, the Navy’s first Black aviator. Following that part, the actor has a stacked slate of films in the works, including his eagerly-anticipated arrival as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” due out in February.

Marvel Studios has been facing many difficulties with its next “Avengers” installment following the departure of director Destin Daniel Cretton, who left to focus on other Marvel projects (“Wonder Man” and the “Shang Chi” sequel). Screenwriter Jeff Loveness exited as well, but none of that really compares to the firing of Jonathan Majors, who was set to play the film’s villain, Kang The Conqueror, and let go after he was convicted in connection to a violent altercation with his ex-girlfriend (now awaiting sentencing that will be handed down in April).

Late last year, trouble seemed to be afoot in the Marvel Universe. “Shang-Chi and the Legend Of The Ten Rings” filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, scheduled to helm “Avengers: Kang Dynasty,” suddenly dropped out of the picture.

Featuring an all-star cast that includes Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, Chin Han, Yann Yann Yeo and Sydney Taylor, “American Born Chinese” recontextualizes ancient history for modern audiences both familiar and unfamiliar with the original stories, bringing together the talents of some of the most prominent Asian actors, writers and directors in entertainment.

EXCLUSIVE: After announcing the Avengers: The Kang Dynasty at this year’s Comic Con, Marvel Studios looks to have found the writer who will now pen the highly-anticipated film. Sources tell Deadline, Jeff Loveness, who recently wrote Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania, will pen Avengers: the Kang Dynasty for Marvel. Loveness will join Destin Daniel Cretton, who was recently set as director on the project with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding yet again, with Variety reporting that Marvel Studios has greenlit a sequel to “Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings”.

Destin Daniel Cretton is returning to write and direct a sequel to Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and an additional series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Disney+.Cretton has also signed a multiyear deal with Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective.
