The mother of television star Caroline Flack has accused a senior police officer of prosecuting her daughter because of her celebrity status.

Caroline Flack’s inquest resumed today, Thursday 6 August, six months after the 40 year old star took her own life.The inquest at Poplar Coroner’s Court in London resumed before Senior Coroner Mary Hassell, with Caroline's family attending via video link. It heard that Caroline told officers she “whacked” boyfriend Lewis Burton but didn't mean to cause him harm.

Caroline Flack with assaulting her boyfriend, despite initially deciding just to caution her. The 40-year-old Love Island star killed herself on February 15 2020, two days after prosecutors decided to press ahead with the case against Flack, who was accused of hitting her boyfriend with a phone as he slept in December.

The inquest into Caroline Flack's death resumed this week and her mum fought back tears as she paid tribute to her daughter. The Love Island presenter was found dead at her home in Stoke Newington, north-east London, on February 15.
