David Bowie’s pianist Mike Garson on their last conversation and talking him out of touring

David Bowie, has shared that he fears he’s to blame for the late singer quitting touring. While speaking to Music Week, Garson shared that a conversation with the ‘Starman’ icon may have impacted his decision to stop touring after 2004.“So he called me in 2006 and he said, ‘Well, Mike, do you think we should go out again?’ Now, I think the band and my wife want to kill me because I said something absurd, but actually deep and correct and honest,” Garson said.He continued: “I said, ‘David, only if you’re feeling it’, because he wasn’t feeling it. I knew it but he wanted to give work to the band – our tour was cut short in 2004, so he was feeling guilty.”Garson toured as part of Bowie’s band for three decades.

Caroline Polachek on why she hates the term ‘female artists’

Caroline Polachek has shared her distaste for the label ‘female artists’, saying: “gender is not a genre.”In a new interview with The Telegraph, the singer – who released new album ‘Desire, I Want To Turn Into You’ back in February – said that gender isn’t something she considers in music she loves.Kate Bush, Björk and Fiona Apple were foundational to me, in terms of redefining what music could be. But no more so than Brian Eno, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Radiohead,” she said.“What all these artists have in common is a very vivid sense of subjectivity.

Peter Gabriel teams up with his daughter and Brian Eno for song ‘Four Kinds Of Horses’

Peter Gabriel has released new single ‘Four Kinds Of Horses’, which features his daughter Melanie on backing vocals alongside Brian Eno on synthesiser – check it out below.Released on Friday (May 5) to coincide with the full moon, the song is the latest track to be shared from Gabriel’s upcoming solo album ‘i/o’ following ‘Panopticom’ and ‘The Court’.Gabriel said that ‘Four Kinds Of Horses’ explores “the interesting overlap of religion and peace on the one hand and violence and terrorism on the other”, and was inspired by the Buddhist parable of the same name, “which describes different ways a student can approach their spiritual practice”.He went on to describe Eno’s synths as “sounding like electric worms”, while Melanie’s vocals provide “another lovely moment for a dad”.Speaking about ‘i/o’, Gabriel said: “Some of what I’m writing about this time is the idea that we seem incredibly capable of destroying the planet that gave us birth and that unless we find ways to reconnect ourselves to nature and to the natural world we are going to lose a lot. A simple way of thinking about where we fit in to all of this is looking up at the sky… and the moon has always drawn me to it.”While the album doesn’t yet have a release date, Gabriel is set to head out on a headline tour of Europe, North America and the UK later this month. The run of shows starts May 18 in Poland before reaching the UK in June – tickets are available here.

Roxy Music Celebrates 50 Years of Romanticism and Art-Rock on Reunion Tour: Concert Review

A.D. Amorosi Just over 50 years ago, on the same day, June 16, 1972, two albums were released that changed the landscape of rock and its sartorial splendor: Roxy Music’s eponymously titled debut and David Bowie’s “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.” While each album was conveniently tagged as part of the start of glam-rock and its slow movement from Britain to the U.S., “Roxy Music” was something that “Ziggy Stardust” was not, despite the latter’s grandeur: downright weird.  Dressed in a mix of ’50s greaser leather, silver spacesuits and more feathers than a revival of “La Cage aux Folles,” warbling crooner Bryan Ferry, saxophonist/oboist Andy Mackay, psychedelic guitarist Phil Manzanera, tom-tom heavy drummer Paul Thompson and slippery synthesizer player Brian Eno made a driving, sinister, suave brand of noisy avant-rock and Dadaist lyric-filled music like no other.
