CBS today renewed three more scripted series, dramas NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i and CSI: Vegas. With recent Season 2 orders for breakout freshmen Fire Country and So Help Me Todd, renewals of comedies Ghosts, The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola and with the FBI franchise, The Equalizer and Young Sheldon in the midst of multi-season pickups, that leaves Blue Bloods, S.W.A.T. and East New York as the three current CBS scripted series that are yet to get word on next season.

Selome Hailu CBS has renewed nine of its series for new seasons: procedural dramas “NCIS,” “NCIS: Hawai’i” and “CSI: Vegas”; news programs “60 Minutes” and “48 Hours”; and reality competition series “Survivor,” “The Amazing Race,” “Tough as Nails” and “Lingo.” These series join other recently announced renewals at CBS, which include “Fire Country,” “Young Sheldon” (as the last part of a three-season renewal given in 2021) “Ghosts,” “The Neighborhood,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “So Help Me Todd,” “The Equalizer” (as the last part of a two-season renewal given in 2022), “FBI,” “FBI: International” and “FBI: Most Wanted” (as the last part of a two-season renewal given to each show in the franchise in 2022). Additionally, the network gave a series order to “The Never Game,” a drama starring Justin Hartley and based on the book of the same name.

CBS has renewed its flagship drama series NCIS, along with NCIS: Hawai’i and CSI: Vegas for the 2023-2024 season.

CBS is getting its business done early with a raft of renewals including its stable of reality shows.

Time’s not up for either 60 Minutes or 48 Hours. CBS has renewed the weekend newsmagazine staples for a 55th and 36th season, respectively.

Beth McCarthy-Miller will once again serve as Awards Chair for the 75th Annual DGA Awards, which will be held February 18, 2023 at the Beverly Hilton. She served in the same position last year.

Bob Hearts Abishola fans might notice that star Billy Gardell has lost a lot of weight since the start of the show in 2019.

CBS picked up four new dramas for next season, while also passing on all of their comedy pilots. To that end, only Mondays and Thursdays on CBS will feature any comedy programming.

Fox, fresh off its Upfronts presentation, had a strong Monday night with the 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star season finales.

The start of fall season is still four months away, but the returning network shows are already gearing up for their next go-round in primetime with hardly any time to celebrate their good fortune.The growth of streaming television and other platforms has severely weakened viewership for comedies and dramas on traditional broadcast TV; on the other hand, it’s also given a new lease on life to shows that might once have been cancelled due to low ratings — since the renewal bar has been significantly lowered as the networks try to hold on to their dwindling audiences in a fractured landscape.That’s good news for fans of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox — which retained a fair number of their shows unlike The CW, which cancelled nine series going into the new season.With the networks firming up their fall schedules this week, it’s a good time to circle back to the returning tried-and-true favorites.

CBS has given series orders to three of its five drama pilots, Max Thieriot’s Fire Country (fka Cal Fire); East New York, headlined by Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits, and So Help Me Todd (fka Untitled Mother & Son Legal Drama), starring Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin. CBS is not commenting beyond that but I hear Fire Country, East New York and So Help Me Todd are for fall. True Lies, from 20th Television, ordered as an off-cycle pilot, remains undecided as of yet.

9-1-1 was the sole winner of Monday primetime as both the highest-rated and most-watched program of the evening.

The latest episode of Fox’s 9-1-1 emerged the true ratings victor on Monday night, the networks’s weeks-long tie with ABC and CBS.

Jennifer Maas TV Business WriterCBS is bringing the funny to a larger audience than its broadcast competition this season with eight of the top 10 most-watched comedies belonging to channel that’s home to “Young Sheldon.” And yes, “Young Sheldon” is by far the most-watched of that group.Out of the 34 comedy titles that have aired across ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and the CW at this point during the 2021-2022 season, a tally that includes repeats of the broadcasters’ sitcoms, CBS has the six most-watched all to itself: “Young Sheldon,” “Ghosts,” “The Neighborhood,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “United States of Al” and “B Positive.”The rest of the top 10 list is made up of encores of “Young Sheldon” in seventh place, followed by ABC comedies “The Conners” and “Abbott Elementary” in the eighth and ninth slots, and reruns of “The Neighborhood” in 10th. At this time last year, there were 38 comedy series airing across the broadcast networks — again, including repeats — and CBS had six of the 10 most-watched.
