Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye is making his feature acting debut!

The Weeknd is quickly positioning himself as a rising media mogul. Still fresh off producing and co-wiring a new TV series that he'll star in later this year, the singer has followed the exact same blueprint for the big screen.The «Earned It» singer is set to star in his own yet-to-be-named film, which he also co-wrote (alongside Reza Fahim and Trey Edward Shults)  and produced.

It appears the acting bug has bitten The Weeknd quite hard. Not only is he co-starring in the upcoming HBO series, “The Idol,” which is set to debut later this year, but apparently, he’s been secretly cooking up his feature film debut with director Trey Edward Shults in an untitled film.

The picture, which is currently untitled and has been kept shrouded in mystery regarding its plot, genre and the like is being directed by Trey Edward Shults, the filmmaker behind “Waves” and “It Comes at Night.” Shults also co-wrote the movie and is executive producing it. We do know that it is shooting in Los Angeles, but aside from that the “logline is being kept under wraps.” Whether comedy or tragedy, action adventure or musical extravaganza, this impressively vague feature has lined up a top shelf cast. Beyond The Weeknd, a Grammy-winning recording juggernaut, the film also stars Jenna Ortega, the star of “Wednesday” and “Scream VI,” as well as Barry Keoghan, the Oscar-nominated actor from “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”

Shults will direct from a script he co-wrote with Tesfaye and his producing partner Reza Fahim. Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss are producing with Shultz and Ortega exec producing.

Ke Huy Quan's 2023 awards season domination continued on Sunday at the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he won the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. The 51-year-old beat out Barry Keoghan (), Brendan Gleeson (), Eddie Redmayne () and Paul Dano () thanks to his role as Waymond Wang in . «This is a really emotional moment for me,» Quan said, holding the prestigious award. «Recently, I was told that if I won, I would be the very first Asian actor to win in this category. 29th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, honoring the best film and TV performances of the past year, were handed out live.For the first time since 1998, the ceremony was not broadcast on TV. Instead, it aired on Netflix's YouTube channel after it was announced that the platform will begin streaming the ceremony live in 2024, as part of a multi-year partnership with SAG-AFTRA. Going into the awards,  and both led with five nominations each, including four individual acting nods and one for ensemble.

The biggest names in Hollywood are ready to celebrate their peers as the 2023 SAG Awards kick off on Sunday, Feb. 26, at Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

Naman Ramachandran MUBI has revealed the first look of “Bring Them Down,” starring Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott (“Catch-22”) and BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”). The casting of Abbott and Keoghan replaces the previously announced cast of Tom Burke and Paul Mescal. Principal photography is in its final stages in Ireland on the production, which is the feature directorial debut of Chris Andrews, following his award-winning short films “Stalker” (2019) and “Fire” (2015). The film also stars Colm Meaney (“Gangs of London”), Nora-Jane Noone (“Wildfire”) Paul Ready (“Motherland”), and Susan Lynch (“Happy Valley”).

Deaf actor Troy Kotsur was delivering the announcement by sign language before a miscommunication resulted in Carey's name being called for her role as Meghan Twohey in She Said.

BAFTA Awards in London on Sunday night with a record-breaking seven wins, including for Best Director, Best Film and Best Film Not in the English Language. The tally means the World War One epic now holds the record for a film not in the English language. The previous record was held by 1988 film “Cinema Paradiso,” which won five BAFTAs. Meanwhile Colin Farrell starrer “The Banshees Of Inisherin” won the second largest number of awards of the night, including both supporting actor categories with wins for Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon (who emerged as the correct winner after fellow nominee Carey Mulligan’s name was initially called in error.) Writer and director Martin Mcdonagh also won for Original Screenplay and Outstanding British Film, although his swipe at the film’s producer Searchlight – when he quipped that he had landed an award for the script without any notes from the studio – prompted a mixed response from the audience, with some possibly perceiving the comment as arrogant. The director quickly made it clear he wasn’t being serious, saying “kidding, kidding.”

Carey Mulligan was incorrectly announced as the winner of the supporting actress award at the EE BAFTAs after a translation gaffe while deaf actor Troy Kotsur was presenting.The winner was first announced as Carey for She Said before Troy's translator made a correction and Kerry Condon was given the award for The Banshees Of Inisherin.The awkward moment was not aired by the BBC, who televised Sunday's ceremony slightly later. After her win was announced, Kerry said: “Thank you Martin [McDonagh] for this part, and thank you for all the parts you gave me throughout my career. You make me so proud to be an Irish woman.” She also thanked the “amazing cast” and her family as well as her horses and dogs.

An unfortunate lost-in-translation snafu happened at the BAFTA Film Awards at Royal Festival Hall in London tonight, after Best Supporting Actress presenter Troy Kotsur announced Kerry Condon as the winner for her performance in The Banshees of Inisherin.

Fresh from his Oscar nomination for The Banshees of Inisherin, Irish actor Barry Keoghan is turning his attention back towards a dream assignment: a new feature retelling of the story of Billy the Kid. Keoghan’s American Animals director Bart Layton is aboard to direct the feature, produced by Element Pictures with Film4.

Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor Tom Cruise stole the show at the 95th Oscars luncheon, the annual gathering celebrating the nominees for the year’s Academy Awards. At the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the in-person event had opening remarks from Academy president Janet Yang. The roll call of this year’s 182 attendees was read by Devon Franklin, a member of the Board of Governors, who began with Jamie Lee Curtis and ended with Guillermo del Toro. Aside from Yang addressing the Will Smith controversy at the top of the event to the attendees (without saying his name), more than 200 guests gathered to celebrate the cinema’s achievements from 2022. Of them, 182 were official nominees for this year’s ceremony, the largest turnout in history. Some of the notable names missing were best actress nominees Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) and Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”), supporting actor Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), producer James Cameron (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) and original song contenders Rihanna (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), Lady Gaga (“Top Gun: Maverick”) and David Byrne (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”).

Todd Field’s psycho-music drama Tár picked up the Film of the Year gong at the London Critics’ Circle Awards Sunday evening.

Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin promises a reunion of the In Bruges team of Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, and it overdelivers, featuring supporting performances from both Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan that are attracting the attention of awards groups internationally. Keoghan has had a charmed run in recent years, crossing directors like Yorgos Lanthimos, Christopher Nolan, David Lowery and Chloé Zhao off his list of must-work-withs (and there’s a literal list). And he was the highlight of this year’s The Batman, becoming the latest actor to play the Joker, even though his single scene didn’t make the final cut.

BAFTA has unveiled the longlists across all categories for its 2023 Film Awards, and Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees Of Inisherin and Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front lead. Scroll down for the lists in full.

The Banshees of Inisherin, which won writer-director Martin McDonagh Best Screenplay and Colin Farrell the Volpi Cup for Best Actor in Venice last month, hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, expanding to 10 more markets/50 locations next weekend, and to 600-800 screens November 4.

Marvel Studios took some big chances when making “Eternals,” a feature film about the obscure god-like superheroes that the iconic Jack Kirby created. The Chloé Zhao-directed film took some liberties with the characters.

Colin Farrell has joked that living with Barry Keoghan was like living with "raccoons". The pair shared a house while filming Martin McDonagh's 'Banshees of Inisherin' in Ireland but Colin admitted the younger actor tried his patience with his messy ways. Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on 'The Late Late Show', he said: "He lived with me during the film and you know, I’d come in the morning and the place was like raccoons had been there - I'm not joking.

Brendan Gleeson hosted Saturday Night Live and was saved by his The Banshees of Inisherin costar after a rough start to a lackluster monologue. Colin Farrell crashed Gleeson’s monologue after he said he was “weird and wonderful” providing a lighter and funny mood to the opening segment.

The Batman.The actor appeared as the Clown Prince of Crime in an extended deleted scene, but that wasn’t the part he originally went for.“I wanted to be Riddler,” he told GQ UK in a recent interview.Keoghan auditioned for The Batman by sending an unsolicited tape over three years ago, after hearing that Reeves was looking to cast someone as The Riddler.Although Paul Dano had already landed the role, Keoghan met with producer Dylan Clark and asked him to watch his audition tape.The two-minute clip sees Keoghan, dressed in black with green braces and a bowler hat, casually make his way out of a lift and saunter down a corridor, before walking towards the camera with blood on his face.
