Netflix is rolling out a new feature called My Netflix, which will replace the Downloads tab on the bottom right of the home screen on iOS apps starting today.
Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Netflix has rolled out a new feature designed to — what else? — get you to stream as much as possible on the service. Starting Monday, Netflix’s app is adding My Netflix, a new tab described as a “one-stop shop tailored to you.” The My Netflix tab supersedes the Downloads tab on the app, where users could find and watch the TV shows and movies they had saved for offline viewing. My Netflix provides a consolidated view of users’ downloads; a list of TV series and movies they have given a “thumbs up” to; shows and films saved to their My List watch list; trailers they have watched; reminders they have set for upcoming releases; a list of titles that they’re in the middle of watching; and what they’ve recently watched.

William Earl Comedian Amy Schumer sets her sights on Alec Baldwin and the tragic “Rust” shooting in her new Netflix comedy special, “Emergency Contact.” The set, which was taped during her Dec. 10 shows at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, debuted on the platform on June 13. Late in the show, Schumer discusses Baldwin’s wife Hilaria, an yoga influencer who has implied Spanish heritage even though she was born in Boston to a family that liked to vacation in Spain. “Hilaria from España is actually Hillary from Boston,” Schumer said. “This woman is in no way Spanish — her parents are not from Spain, no one in her life is from Spain.”
Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta has made an unusual inroad into Vietnam with reality show “Let’s Feast Vietnam,” which launched on Netflix this week in parts of Asia. The 10-episode “Let’s Feast Vietnam” (aka “Hành Trình K? Thú”) is part cooking competition and part-way travelogue. It also borrows something of the ‘reels’ short video feature that makes social media apps so addictive, in that contestants are required to produce video clips along their journey.

For about a year and some change, just prior to the release of Gorillaz‘s second album Demon Days, I was a frequent lurker on unofficial Gorillaz fansites and forums. The band’s self-titled 2001 debut had got its hooks in me years prior, and after buying just about every comic by Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett, I needed more. My anticipation for a new album was matched by a desire for a full-length animated movie — the Gorillaz skits “G Bites,” contained on the DVD Phase One: Celebrity Take Down, expanded on the absurdist humor and the neo-occult, ’70s horror-indebted style of the band — confirmed for me that a movie simply had to happen.
Zack Sharf Johnny Depp’s return to acting following his defamation trial against Amber Heard is not being backed by Netflix. Bloomberg reported that the Depp-starring French movie “La Favorite” is receiving “financial backing” from Netflix, but a source close to the streaming giant told Variety this reporting is not true. Netflix is not financing the movie but has licensed the film to stream in France only after it completes the country’s 15-month theatrical window.
Amanda Knox is crying foul on the jump to speculate that “Tiger King” star Carole Baskin allegedly played a role in the disappearance of her husband Don Lewis.
Aramide Tinubu Who is Vince Staples? Netflix viewers who might not know the rapper/singer can dive inside his psyche with his new limited satirical series, “The Vince Staples Show.” Using the same surrealist approach as the critically acclaimed “Atlanta” and “Reservation Dogs,” the Long Beach-set series is presented in five delirium-filled vignettes as Vince (the character) navigates his daily life. Viewers watch him trying to get a small business loan, taking his girlfriend Deja’s (Andrea Ellsworth) little brother and friends to a theme park and speaking to a class of middle school students at his alma mater. While the show, which Kenya Barris produces, has some truly laugh-out-loud moments, an uneven cadence and aimlessness throughout make for a frustrating watch overall.
Ethan Shanfeld In Todd Haynes’ Netflix drama “May December,” the subject of a decades-old tabloid sex scandal is visited by a famous actress set to portray her in a film. Charna Flam “American Gladiators” aired in the 1990’s, but the competition still remains a phenomenon decades later. Last month, ESPN’s “30 for 30” explored the show, and now, Netflix is getting into the game. Netflix’s five-part docuseries, “Muscles & Mayhem: An Unauthorized Story of ‘American Gladiators,” dives into the hit, chronicling the meteoric rise and sweeping impact the superhero-like athletes had on both fans across America and their “average Joe” competitors. Co-directors Jared Hess and Tony Vainuku were fans of “American Gladiators” as teens, so it was natural to revisit the TV show when Netflix presented the opportunity. In their series, the filmmakers explore the good, the bad and the ugly, bringing audiences insight through access to executives who greenlit the production in the ’80s, original crew members and gladiators, including Nitro (Dan Clark), Storm (Debbie Clark), Diamond (Erika Andersch Bunker), Laser (Jim Kalafat), Ice (Lori Fetrick), Zap (Raye Olson), Blaze (Shari E Pendleton Mitchell), Sky (Shirley Eson-Korito) and Tower (Steve Hennebery).

Todd Longwell Investing in a film and TV production facility is a tricky business. The industry is fickle under the best of circumstances, and if you’re looking to build a soundstage complex in a region that uses its tax incentive to attract projects, there’s always the possibility that politicians will repeal it in the next legislative session, effectively shutting down your studio.
