This is definitely the most deceptively obvious award. It sounds like it just goes to the best jam of the year, but it's slightly more complicated than that. Our role is to ensure that we classify the content appropriately based on our guidelines, in order to protect children and other vulnerable groups from potential harm and to empower consumers to make informed viewing decisions.”

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor“The Many Saints of Newark” is a prequel to the beloved HBO series “The Sopranos,” but it unfolds in a much different sliver of New Jersey. This film is set in the apartment buildings and tenements of 1960s and ’70s Newark instead of the sprawling McMansions where Tony and much of his crew decamped on the show.It is a city on a knife edge, with roiling racial tensions and inequity that are about to explode in a dramatic conflagration of unrest.
Nicholas Weinstock The first time I went to Ghana, I was 19 years old and volunteering to build a health clinic in a rural village. It was the early ‘90s, I was a teenaged lunatic, and everything bad that could have happened to me did: I got malaria; I was beaten up by soldiers on the border with the Ivory Coast — but I also encountered wonderful people and stunning and moving and unforgettable experiences and friendships.

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic Halfway through “Insidious: The Red Door,” there’s a moment that encapsulates why the movie isn’t more insidious. Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson), the father from the first two “Insidious” films (this one is number five), has just dropped his son off for his freshman year at college. The son, Dalton, is once again played by Ty Simpkins, who was just a spooked kid in the earlier films; now he’s a spooked surly emo art student draped in hippie hair. Eight years ago, Dalton and his father were hypnotized so that they would lose all memory of the Further, the spirit zone Dalton got sucked into as an astral projection of himself. The hypnosis worked; they’ve forgotten the living nightmares they saw. But now the visions are coming back.
House of the Dragon? More like Haus of the Dragon. The first full trailer for HBO Max's hotly anticipated Game of Thrones spin-off just dropped, and while it's rife with all the intrigue (and some of the violence) fans anticipate from the series, we can't get over just how blonde the Targaryens are.Like, we knew they would be blonde. Daenerys Targaryen was a towhead, as was her brother Viserys before he got, um, let's call it a full head of golden highlights? And Rhaegar in the flashback (slash vision?) of course.

So Stormzy and Wiley have been engaged in a good old-fashioned grime feud since New Year’s Day. Stormzy’s a ‘weirdo’, Wiley’s a ‘dinosaur’. Etc, etc.

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic If would be hard to name an artist in any medium who illustrated Flaubert’s famous maxim of creativity (“Be regular and orderly in your life like a bourgeois, so that you may be violent and original in your work”) better than Ennio Morricone. Morricone, who died in 2020 (at 91), was certainly one of the greatest composers of movie soundtracks who ever lived. But even if you consider him next to his fellow giants (Bernard Herrmann, John Williams, Nino Rota, Hans Zimmer, Max Steiner), Morricone scaled his own wild peak, inventing his own kind of beauty, his own transcendent cacophony.
