‘Perfect Match’ Review: Netflix’s Latest Reality Experiment Might Actually Be Perfect

Netflix might have hit the jackpot with its latest reality experiment, “Perfect Match.” The streamer took the casts of all of its reality hits — “Love Is Blind,” “The Ultimatum,” “Too Hot to Handle,” “The Mole,” “Selling Tampa,” “The Circle,” “Sexy Beasts” and “Twentysomethings” — and mixed them all together in an attractive combo of “Love Island,” “Bachelor in Paradise” and “Are You the One” that might actually improve on all three of those shows, depending on how the season plays out. It’s the best dating show the streamer has put out so far, though it relies on the stupidity of those shows to succeed. “Perfect Match” couldn’t exist without “Love Is Blind,” but you don’t actually have to have made it through “Love Is Blind” to love “Perfect Match.”The premise, unlike most of Netflix’s dating show premises, is relatively simple.

‘Crime 101’: Amazon Outbids Netflix For Rights To Crime Thriller With Chris Hemsworth & Pedro Pascal Attached To Star

Earlier this week, Amazon and Netflix started a bidding war over the rights to “Crime 101,” an adaptation of a Don Winslow novella with Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal attached to star. No surprise there, as Pascal is one of the buzziest actors in the industry right now, and Hemsworth’s projects continue to succeed.

The story of former fertility doctor Donald Cline is horrifying in its own right. Having used his own sperm to inseminate countless women, all the while lying about the origins of the sperm for decades — often by claiming that it came from medical residents at the nearby hospital — Cline’s story became national news around 2019, when the ever-growing number of his biological children sought punishment for what they claimed was sexual assault against their mothers.

mammoth launch of “Dahmer,” “The Watcher” adaptation drains all the potential relatability and genuine terror out of the source material. With a subtler hand, and a much shorter runtime, a film could have explored the rich themes of the dark side of upward mobility and the erosion of civility among neighbors while serving up subtle but real scares, toying with the idea that the titular letter-writer could be any smiling neighbor at the grocery store. The neighbors in Murphy’s “The Watcher” wouldn’t be even remotely recognizable in the real world, so we get none of that all-too-believable dread.

Netflix Introduces ‘My Netflix’ Tab on Mobile Apps, Which Consolidates Downloads, Watch List, Reminders and More

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Netflix has rolled out a new feature designed to — what else? — get you to stream as much as possible on the service. Starting Monday, Netflix’s app is adding My Netflix, a new tab described as a “one-stop shop tailored to you.” The My Netflix tab supersedes the Downloads tab on the app, where users could find and watch the TV shows and movies they had saved for offline viewing. My Netflix provides a consolidated view of users’ downloads; a list of TV series and movies they have given a “thumbs up” to; shows and films saved to their My List watch list; trailers they have watched; reminders they have set for upcoming releases; a list of titles that they’re in the middle of watching; and what they’ve recently watched.

Netflix’s ‘The Vince Staples Show’ Feels Incomplete, Despite Some Brilliant Bits: TV Review

Aramide Tinubu Who is Vince Staples? Netflix viewers who might not know the rapper/singer can dive inside his psyche with his new limited satirical series, “The Vince Staples Show.” Using the same surrealist approach as the critically acclaimed “Atlanta” and “Reservation Dogs,” the Long Beach-set series is presented in five delirium-filled vignettes as Vince (the character) navigates his daily life. Viewers watch him trying to get a small business loan, taking his girlfriend Deja’s (Andrea Ellsworth) little brother and friends to a theme park and speaking to a class of middle school students at his alma mater. While the show, which Kenya Barris produces, has some truly laugh-out-loud moments, an uneven cadence and aimlessness throughout make for a frustrating watch overall.

Gary Gray’s followup to “Men in Black: International” has the misfortune of arriving shortly after the vast majority of non-fungible tokens were deemed officially worthless.

However, for every film that incorporates an inciting fib with smarts and heart (from “While You Were Sleeping” to “You’ve Got Mail”), there are others that lack a similar savvy finesse (like “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days” and “The Wedding Date”). “Players” competes in the latter league.

‘The Wonder’ Telluride Review: Florence Pugh In Sebastian Lelio’s Gothic Netflix Drama

The Wonder is Gothic without the architecture. Set in rural central Ireland in the wake of the Great Famine of the mid-1800s, director Sebastian Lelio’s adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s 2016 novel methodically moves the chess pieces around in telling the tale of an 11-year-old girl who has locals mystified as to what God is intending by letting her survive for four months without eating. Atmospheric and intriguing up to a point, it nonetheless feels like much ado about a mildly curious situation that’s been milked for rather more than it’s worth.
