An axe-wielding killer murdered a man during a 'ferocious' attack after telling his victim he'd 'took everything' from him, a jury heard. Kieran Oldham, 37, is on trial accused of the murder of 21-year-old Liam Richardson in Rochdale.
He has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, but denies murder. Oldham inflicted more than a dozen blows while armed with an axe, a court heard.
In the hours after the killing, Oldham told two of his friends that he'd put a 'hex' on them. "Liam Richardson lost his life as the result of what the prosecution say was a ferocious attack at the hands of this defendant," prosecutor Jaime Hamilton KC told a jury at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.

"An attack which involved over a dozen blows with the cutting edge of an axe, and which led to multiple injuries."
Neighbours had heard loud noises coming from a house on Industry Road in Rochdale, which had started at about 8pm on Sunday, October 2 last year. After the disturbance continued, they called police at about 12.30am.
When officers arrived they discovered Mr Richardson, from Middleton, on the first floor landing. He had suffered 'catastrophic' injuries to his head and neck, and was pronounced dead at 1.55am.
Officers learned that Oldham lived at the property, but he was not present when they arrived. Two voicemail recordings, which the prosecution alleges capture conversations between Oldham and Mr Richardson at about 12.20am that day, were played to the jury.
Mr Hamilton said they may have been recorded after Oldham accidentally called someone. "You took everything from me," Oldham is alleged to have said.
