King, and Scott Stuber as the newest members of its board of directors.“Each brings a unique perspective and appreciation of film culture and exhibition as the AC continues to expand its programming and community engagement,” stated American Cinematheque Chairman Rick Nicita.Blum founded Blumhouse, a multimedia film and TV company regarded as the driving force in horror that recently entered the video game business.

Callum McLennan “Girl, Unknown,” the sophomore feature from Spanish director Pablo Maqueda (“Dear Werner”), currently ranks as one of the early buzz titles at the Málaga Film Festival, even before its world premiere. The film adapts Paco Bezerra’s stage play “Grooming.”  Maqueda, Bezerra and Haizea G. Viana wrote the script, which retains the play’s unsettling cat-and-mouse element. It delves into the recesses of desire, raising questions on depravity, sexuality, and the drive to be fulfilled. The story unfolds a pendulum swinging power dynamic between the seemingly innocent 16 year old Carolina, and a middle aged man she meets in a park named Leo. What begins and is a case of grooming morphs into something far more complex due to Carolina not being all she seems. Maqueda shows a Hanekesque talent in balancing the disturbing with the thrilling. On the film, Maqueda told Variety: “I feel the film as a kaleidoscope and the characters as masks. I like stories that navigate in the daily terror of everyday life,”

Selome Hailu Danielle Fishel is set to direct the March 24 episode of “Lopez vs. Lopez.” Titled “Lopez vs. Cheaters,” the episode will feature Justina Machado and Gregg Sulkin as guest stars. Per the logline, “Lopez vs. Cheaters” introduces Dr. Bell (Sulkin), a visiting veterinarian who finds Mayan (Mayan Lopez) extremely attractive. As she accompanies him to a bird convention, Mayan begins to worry that she might be destined to repeat the Lopez legacy of cheating, dating all the way back to her Aztec ancestor, Tonto Tecate-Can. Machado plays Beatrice “Bunny” Perez. Years ago, Bunny was the “other woman” who broke up George (George Lopez) and Rosie’s (Selenis Leyva) marriage. Now Bunny has come back, but this time it’s to make amends to Rosie. Initially Rosie wants nothing to do with Bunny, but eventually, she and Rosie become friends and turn on George together.

Damian Lewis is back as Axe!

at the end of season 5, Damian Lewis is now set to return to the Showtime drama. He will reprise his role as Bobby «Axe» Axelrod in season 7, appearing in six of the upcoming 12 new episodes when returns later this year. Lewis will appear alongside his original co-stars, Paul Giamatti as Charles «Chuck» Rhoades, Jr.

Yossman Jamie Dornan is returning for a second season of “The Tourist.” The series, which was written and created by Jack and Harry Williams, is set to go into production in Dublin, Ireland in April. “I’m incredibly excited to continue the story with ‘The Tourist,’” said Dornan. “Harry and Jack Williams are brilliant writers, and I can’t wait for audiences to see how well Ireland and its characters are utilised to keep them guessing as the tale progresses…” In the off-beat thriller with a darkly comedic streak, Dornan (“Belfast”) reprises his role as Elliott, who wakes up one day in an Australian hospital with amnesia following a car crash. Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic Tapping into the Japanese national zeitgeist once again with “Suzume,” writer-director Makoto Shinkai surpasses his peers in making films for and about teenagers. Now 50 years old, the anime master christened his latest blockbuster after its heroine, Suzume Iwato (voiced by Nanoka Hara), a 17-year-old orphan on the southwestern island of Kyushu swept up in a cross-country trip to prevent a series of natural disasters. That such a responsibility should fall to someone so young is typical of his oeuvre (see “Weathering With You”), but also an apt way of illustrating the lingering trauma and vulnerability that adolescents feel in many parts of Japan. Funnier and more streamlined than Shinkai’s earlier hypercharged toon epics, “Suzume” is a massive hit in its home country, where it has earned more than $100 million since opening last November — his third film to pass that milestone. The film made its international premiere at the Berlinale, one of two animated features in official competition (the other being Chinese director Liu Jian’s “Art College 1994”). Theatrical releases are scheduled to follow in most countries on or around April 13.

Rebecca Lenkiewicz will be this year’s recipient of the WGA West’s Paul Selvin Award in recognition of her adapted screenplay for She Said, the Universal film about the New York Times reporters who broke the story that exposed disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. The guild said Thursday that she will be honored at the WGA Awards’ Los Angeles ceremony March 5 at the Fairmont Century Plaza.

Andy Muschietti‘s two “IT” films from 2017 and 2019 brought Stephen King‘s 1986 epic horror novel to the big screen for the first time. Now Muschietti will develop the franchise even further.
