Joe McElderry looks almost unrecognisable 14 years on from his The X Factor success. Joe, now 31, won the once-popular singing contest in 2009, with his first track, The Climb, hitting the top spot in the charts in both the UK Singles Chart and Irish Singles Chart. Two years after his The X Factor success, Joe embarked on a slight career change and took part on British TV show Popstar to Operastar and won the season series. Since then, the singer has focused on theatre work and has starred in the likes of Cinderella and Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat while still releasing his own music.
His fifth album, titled Saturday Night at the Movies, was released in 2016. With his busy schedule in mind, Joe is currently taking a well earned break in Barbados with friends – where fellow X Factor alumni Olly Murs has just been – and has been snapped living it up on a yacht. In photos of Joe, he showcased his hunky figure in an open floral print shirt and khaki green swim shorts, which he paired with some sunglasses. The star appeared happy and relaxed in the snaps as he lapped up the Barbados sunshine.
Joe has also shared a selfie of him on his holidays to Twitter, while writing: “I think I want to live in the Caribbean! Such a special place”. It’s thought the singer jetted off to the stunning location in recent days, and has since been updating his 34,000 Instagram followers with enviable holiday photos. In his first photo, Joe admitted that he’d already got sunburnt and quipped that he “never learns”.
His fans have rushed to the comments sections of his photos to wish him a happy holiday. “Have a gorgeous day, beautiful boy!” penned one person, as someone else said: “Hope you're having a great time love the photos”. Another
