EXCLUSIVE: ABC is developing Worst House on the Block, a half-hour comedy series from 20th Television.
Written by Niki Schwartz-Wright (Pivoting) and to be directed by Natalia Anderson (Maggie), Worst House On the Block has a Beverly Hillbillies vibe to it. In the show, when a poor family from South Texas inherits the worst house on the block in a chic LA neighborhood, they cause quite a stir amongst their new neighbors. Tensions may flare, but ultimately, we’ll watch as three different families, with nothing in common but their zip code and how overwhelmed they feel by the sheer number of Love Island episodes there are to watch, start to find common ground and slowly-but-surely, friendship.
Schwartz-Wright and Anderson executive produce with 3 Arts’ Oly Obst.
Most recently, Schwartz-Wright served as co-executive producer on Fox’s comedy series Pivoting. Before that, she was a co-executive producer on the NBC comedy series Abby’s. She also did stints on ABC comedy series Speechless, Fox’s The Grinder, ABC’s The Goldbergs, NBC’s The Office and MTV’s Awkward. She is repped by UTA, 3 Arts and attorney Jared Levine of Morris Barnes.
Anderson’s episodic directing credits include Maggie (Hulu), Life In Pieces (CBS), This Country (Fox), black-ish (ABC), Brews Brothers (Netflix), Grown-ish (Freeform) and Pitch Perfect (Peacock). She is repped by WME.

The news was announced Thursday. Set during an ancestral war between teddy bears and unicorns, the horror-comedy film follows Bluet and Tubby, teddy bear brothers who are polar opposites to each other. When their time at teddy bear bootcamp leads to a combat tour in the Magic Forest, Bluet and Tubby’s complicated history and tense relationship could affect the fate of the war, including whether the teddy bears will fulfill the prophecy and usher in a new era. “Unicorn Wars” is directed and written by illustrator Alberto Vázquez. Prior to this deal, GKIDS distributed Vázquez’s Goya Award-winning feature “Birdboy: The Forgotten Children” and animated short “Decorado.”

lose weight, it's common knowledge that the first step it to cut out sugar. Many people's first point of call is limiting sweet treats such as chocolate and desserts - all things high in calories and sugar. But when it comes to fizzy drinks there is a bit of confusion around the word "diet".
Six of the eight nominees in this category have been previously nominated, but only two, Ted Lasso and Hacks, were among the nominees last year. The shows dominated the comedy categories with Lasso picking up seven Emmys including the top one, and Hacks emerging triumphant in the all-important writing, directing and Lead Actress contests. With six more contenders, will Lasso and Hacks be dominant on Emmy night once again, especially now that they are in their second seasons and no longer the new guys on the block? Both Barry and Curb Your Enthusiasm are, like Hacks, also from HBO/HBO Max, making that premium network/streamer the only outlet with multiple nominations. That could be a plus for the other networks as they don’t have to compete against themselves, but this kind of dominance still is a nice problem to have for HBO, which has a combined 35 nominations in the Comedy categories. An interesting fact is that this category has defied Emmy history lately by awarding a different show (Mrs. Maisel, Fleabag, Schitt’s Creek, Ted Lasso) the prize for the first time in all their cases in the last four years consecutively. Does that mean we are again ripe for something that has never won?

Selome Hailu SPOILER ALERT: Do not read if you haven’t watched Season 1 of “Mo” on Netflix. As I finish interviewing comedian Mo Amer and ask him if there’s anything else he’d like to talk about, he says, “I don’t have a lean addiction, nor have I ever been addicted to lean. I keep saying that every chance I can, because it gets weird out here.” It’s an important distinction to make, as the mixture of prescription cough syrup, soda and candy has killed many, especially in Houston, where Amer grew up. He is the co-creator, executive producer and star of “Mo,” a comedy-drama series that heavily draws from his true experiences as a refugee — his parents were displaced from Palestine to Kuwait where Amer was born, before the whole family fled to Texas during the Gulf War. Several of the show’s most painful moments — like when, 20 years after his father’s death from a heart attack, is looking over paperwork with his immigration lawyer (Lee Eddy) and finds out for the first time that his father was captured and tortured during the war — are lifted directly from Amer’s life. But when Mo begins sipping lean to cope with an injury he sustains in Episode 1 — Amer says that’s all for the plot.
