A woman who repeatedly stabbed her former lover with a ‘tattie peeler’ blade was cleared of attempted murder today.
A jury found Lindsay Lowe guilty instead of assaulting Steven Clarke to his severe injury under provocation.
Lowe, 44, had admitted wounding Mr Clarke eight times with a four inch Kitchen Devil utility knife at her flat in Broxburn, West Lothian but denied trying to murder him.
She claimed she had acted in self-defence because she was in fear of her life after he had battered and strangled her and hit her over the head with a beer bottle.

“She said that they’d been fighting, he’d tried to choke her and he’d hit her with the bottle.”
Miss Yule found Lowe standing at the kitchen sink with the bloodstained knife still in her hand and her then partner Mr Clarke slumped against a radiator covered in his own blood.
She said: “It wasn’t until I seen the knife in her hand and I turned and I seen Steven that I thought: ‘Oh she has done it!’
“I said: ‘Lindsay what have you done? What’s happened?’ She said he was beating her and she lifted the knife in self-defence.
“She said that she had passed out and when she came to she was in the bedroom and Steven was choking her and that he’d hit her with a bottle.
