It’s official – a new Wizard of Oz is in the works.
On Monday (August 15), it was announced that Warner Bros. has picked up a reimagining of the 1939 classic film from Kenya Barris.

Kenya, 48, will be writing and directing the reimagining of the Wizard of Oz with his Khalabo Ink Society producing, Deadline reports.
As of right now, creative details about being kept under wraps, but the new movie will be a modern reimagining of the iconic movie musical.
Kenya closed his deal with Warner Bros. last week.
Kenya is best known for creating the ABC series black-ish and the Freeform series grown-ish along with writing the scripts for movies including Girls Trip, Soul, and Coming 2 America.
The original Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland, is ranked as one of the greatest movies of all time.
