Prince William and Prince Harry have put aside their differences as they walked in solidarity together behind The Queen’s coffin on her journey to Westminster Hall. The brothers, who have had a strained relationship in recent years, walked united in grief during the Queen’s procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where the coffin will now lie in state until the funeral on Monday September 19. Dressed in a black morning suit, Harry walked alongside his older brother, who himself wore his military dress uniform as they joined their father King Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Princess Anne in the procession.
Anne’s son Peter Phillips and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence also walked behind the procession, as well as the Duke of Gloucester and the Earl of Snowdon. The Queen Consort, the Princess of Wales, the Countess of Wessex and the Duchess of Sussex are travelling by car.
Beginning at 2:22pm precisely, the procession marks one of the final legs of the Queen’s journey since her death last week. William and Harry walking together behind the Queen's coffin is a heartbreaking echo of the funeral of their mother, Princess Diana.
The brothers were aged 15 and 12 when they walked behind the coffin of their mother along with their father Charles on September 6, 1997.Taking 38 minutes in total, the procession route will see Queen's coffin travel along The Mall, Horse Guards Road, across Horse Guards Arch and onto Whitehall to Parliament Square. Once it arrives at Westminster Hall, a short service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will also be assisted by The Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, Dean of Westminster, and attended by The King and Members of the Royal family.
