Mattel-backed pop-up cafes making news and pink “Barbiecore” fashion becoming a legitimate wardrobe trend. The movie is directed and co-written by the fantastic Greta Gerwig (“Lady Bird,” “Little Women”) and has a stacked cast including Ryan Gosling as Ken, Will Ferrell as a corporate CEO, Kate McKinnon from “SNL” as “Weird Barbie” and, of course, Margot Robbie as the titular toy. But, somewhat surprisingly, it’s the final name on the aforementioned list that gives me the most pause. Robbie, 32, is a phenomenal actress without a doubt, but she’s drawn to box office bombs like flies to rotting meat. Why would an actress with so much skill and appeal, as natural in prestige dramas as she is at the Met Gala, struggle so much to put butts in seats? The answer is a combination of factors.
Several of Robbie’s biggest roles came during the pandemic; the actress has often latched onto flimsy franchises; and some of her projects have been just plain heinous. For a while, though, Robbie was sitting pretty. “The Big Short,” “The Wolf of Wall Street” and the first “Suicide Squad” all were popular hits. Then, things went south right after 2018’s “I, Tonya,” the Tonya Harding biopic that grossed a modest $53.9 million off an $11 million budget and earned Robbie a Best Actress Oscar nomination (she lost to Frances McDormand in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”).Cue the Flop Parade.
Her 2018 “Terminal,” a thriller starring Simon Pegg and Mike Myers, grossed an impossibly low $843,970. The true-life film “Bombshell” that she co-starred in with Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron in 2019 got mixed reviews and grossed only $62 million of a $32 million budget before marketing costs. And her 2018 go at playing Queen Elizabeth I, “Mary

Vogue’s “Life in Looks” series. She recalled a distinct moment while filming “Once Upon a Time in … Hollywood” — which reportedly features 36 shots of feet — where director Quentin Tarantino, rumored to have a foot fetish, instructed her to not wash her soles prior to shooting a scene. In the 2019 film about Hollywood in 1969, Robbie plays Sharon Tate, a notoriously shoe-averse actress and model who was a victim of the infamous Manson murders.Robbie recalled a scene where her character struts into a movie theater to view herself in a feature film, kicks off her chic go-go boots and props up her tootsies on the seat in front of her. “My feet were dirty because I’d been walking around set all day,” she said.
Tom Hanks‘ wife Rita Wilson has spoken out about a photograph that appears to show her husband embroiled in an “angry” exchange on the red carpet. The viral image appeared to show the Hollywood star pointing his finger at a carpet worker and making a stern face during their conversation. In the photo, Wilson also has her finger raised and appears to be involved in the discussion. The couple, who last month marked their 35th wedding anniversary, were in attendance at the film festival to see Wes Anderson‘s new film, which stars Hanks, Asteroid City. Now, Wilson has denied that any argument took place and said that she and Hanks were simply struggling to hear directions on the red carpet.Posting on her Instagram Story, with a screenshot of a Daily Mail article suggesting that the pair had “remonstrated” with the man, she said: “This is called, ‘I can’t hear you. People are screaming.

When asked about playing Ken, Gosling initially deflects the question, noting, «It would be very un-Ken of me to talk about Ken.»The 42-year-old actor does discuss how Robbie helped him take on the role of Ken. «She left a pink present with a pink bow, from Barbie to Ken, every day while we were filming,» Gosling recalls.

Margot Robbie, along with Barbie collaborators Ryan Gosling and Greta Gerwig, are speaking out about the film in a new interview!
Zack Sharf Digital News Director Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” movie casts Issa Rae, Hari Nef, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon and more as different iterations of the iconic Mattel doll, but the first actor Robbie envisioned as a Barbie in the film was none other than Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot. She wasn’t available, but Robbie explained to Vogue that Gadot’s “Barbie energy” became a template for casting all of the film’s Barbie roles. What exactly is Barbie energy? “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy,” Robbie said. “Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.”
Scarlett Johansson showed off her extensive tattoo collection during the red carpet premiere of Asteroid City at the Cannes Film Festival. The 38 year old movie star looked stunning as she displayed her eye-catching inkings in a figure-hugging, pink Prada gown - which she accessorised with a dazzling pair of earrings from David Yurman.
