Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez has returned to the club as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.
The highly-rated defender was sent out on loan to Championship side Preston North End earlier this summer on a season-long placement. After impressing in an EFL Cup win over Huddersfield earlier this month, in which he provided two assists in the 4-1 victory, the Spaniard limped off at the break.
He has not featured for his temporary employers since, missing successive league games. Now, an update has been issued by Lilywhites' chief Ryan Lowe about the youngster's fitness and it has been confirmed he will miss a third game - and potentially even a fourth.

"He's hurt his ankle and had a little bit of a setback," Lowe said, ahead of North End's visit of Watford on Saturday. "lt'll probably be sometime next week now, but we are governed by Manchester United as well. He is their player, so he's going into United to see their physios. He's fine, he's in good spirits. We have to allow him to go there tomorrow, so he'll miss a day of training with us and that then rules him out of Saturday.
"He will be back with us sometime tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, but the fact of the matter is that we won't be able to do anything with him, so he's ruled out of Saturday. We're hoping to have him back on Tuesday. We have to go through the right protocols with Man United. Jacko (Matt Jackson, physio) has done an unbelievable job with him and got the swelling down, but ultimately he is not our player, he's their asset, so it's only right that we do good by them and respect what they say.
"He is gutted that he's not available. He's saying 'one more day' to me
