King Charles III released a series of official coronation portraits to mark his crowning on 6 May 2023.The King thanked everyone who made the festivities a success in a note to the public and included several photos, including solo shots of him and his wife Camilla, 75, a picture of them as a pair and an official portrait with other royals. The larger portrait photo still omitted some of the royals that might have appeared in previous official portraits, however, as a part of the King’s plan for a slimmed down monarchy. Charles’ commitment to only include working members of the family meant that the second in line to the throne, Prince William’s son George, was also absent from the photograph. The Prince and Princess’ younger children, Charlotte and Louis, were also missing.
In total, there were just 12 members of the family, including Charles and Camilla themselves, in the official portrait. These were (from left to right) Prince Edward, 87, the Duke of Kent and the youngest of the King’s siblings. Next to him stands Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 76, and her husband Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, 78, and the late Queen’s cousin. To the right of them is Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, 68, and his wife Anne, Princess Royal, 72.
