Thomas, whose real last name is Croquet, is the frontman of the Grammy-winning band Phoenix and one of the band’s songs were included on the soundtrack of Sofia‘s 2003 movie Lost in Translation. He also has an uncredited role in her 1999 movie The Virgin Suicides.
They are the parents to two children – 16-year-old Romy and 12-year-old Cosima - and reside in New York City.
Sofia, who is the daughter of legendary director Francis Ford Coppola, was previously married to director Spike Jonze from 1999 to 2003.
