Singer-songwriter Sam Ryder will be representing the United Kingdom at the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, set to be held in Turin, Italy in May 2022 with the song SPACE MAN.The 31 year old hopeful will compete against the rest of Europe in the hopes of the UK being crowned the winner of the competition. Sam has some serious singing credentials already under his belt and has racked up millions of likes on social media before being selected as this year's singer. With over 12 million followers and 100 million likes on TikTok, the Essex native is currently the most followed UK music artist on the platform. His unique vocals quickly caught the attention of celebrity fans including Justin Bieber, Sia and Alicia Keys, who even posted her own video reacting to Sam’s cover of her song ‘If I Ain’t Got You’.
Sam has also just completed his first sold-out UK tour. The song SPACE MAN was written with Amy Wadge, who cowrote Ed Sheeran's smash hit Thinkin' Out Loud. Sam describes the song as ‘a little song about being an astronaut’.
Speaking about his track in an interview with Ken Bruce on Radio 2, Sam said: "I wrote this song about a year ago with two very close friends of mine and it was kind of the song that started my journey, got record labels interested... so I knew it was really important. "Anyone that knows me knows that I overthink absolutely everything and I’m glad, though, that I over-thought this because having waited on it, we’ve been given this amazing opportunity with Eurovision to release it and give it it’s little moment in the world.
