Emmerdale will celebrate its 50th birthday in October and fans of the soap can expect a month-long series of celebrations. Producers Jane Hudson and Laura Shaw have said the big milestone will see a "golden month of celebration". And it sounds as though the makers of the Yorkshire-based soap are going to be ramping up the drama, with Jane and Laura saying the month will include "more heartbreaks" than we've ever seen on the show and "secrets and lies are revealed." It also looks like some old familiar faces could be returning, and some babies may be born.
According to the producers, storylines will be set up in advance and come to a head in the so called "golden month." Speaking in a press conference in January 2022, Jane Hudson said it will be the "biggest year" Emmerdale has "ever had".
She explained: "We need to make this the biggest year we've ever had. We've already got some great stuff planned – maybe a wedding in the summer. "There are some really big things that will test couples' strength and them as parents, so there is a lot in store." The producer continued: "We might see some old faces returning, we're not sure yet.
I think there is a lot coming up – the focus is really to celebrate Emmerdale turning 50. Our focus at the moment is to really build those stories so when we get to our golden month of celebration, we've got secrets that the viewers are desperate to be revealed."
