Martinez's inclusion came as a surprise to many. The summer signing from Ajax had experienced a disastrous evening at Brentford just nine days earlier, resulting in him being taken off at half-time.
However, Ten Hag, who was determined to be reunited with the 24-year-old at Old Trafford this summer, kept his faith in him and awarded him a third consecutive start. It was a decision that was fully justified come the full-time whistle, as the Argentine international produced an outstanding display to earn him a wealth of fully deserved praise.
