New thriller Pieces of Her landed on Netflix last week - with the show quickly going to the top of streamer’s ranking system.
The series stars respected actress Toni Collette as suburban mother Laura Oliver who has a dark past that she has kept hidden from her daughter, Andy - played by Bella Heathcote.
The thrilling opening of the series follows Andy as she is caught up in a terrifying, deadly shooting at a local diner. But she is saved when mum Laura tackles the shooter - violently and with ease.
The incident leads Andy to question who her mum really is. Her curiosity leads her on a dangerous journey across America that draws her further into dark family secrets.

The series is based on Karin Slaughter’s 2018 novel Pieces of Her. Slaughter, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, is the international bestselling author of more than a dozen novels, including New York Times bestsellers Cop Town, Pretty Girls and The Good Daughter.
Pieces of Her was well received on its release. Reviewer Richard Lipez, from The Washington Post, said, ‘the characters keep you involved all the way, as does the vivid writing’ while the Daily Express called it ‘the best suspense novel of the year'.
The reviews for the Netflix series have been mixed. The Guardian gave it three stars, with critic Lucy Mangan saying: “It’s slick, the plot runs like clockwork and – just as with the book – you can walk away at the end feeling thoroughly entertained without being able to remember a solitary thing about it.”
The Independent also gave it three stars, though reviewer Annabel Nugent said the series could be ‘saggy’ and ‘bloated’. She adds: “The series coasts on several genuinely shocking and well-executed
