The latest Marvel film has been released in the UK and sees actor/musician Jared Leto (Lord of War, Dallas Buyers Club) step into the role of the franchise's most iconic anti-hero. The film was directed by Daniel Espinosa and also stars Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith and Al Madriga.
The movie's plot sees biochemist Michael Morbius (Leto) attempt to cure himself of a rare blood disease with an experimental treatment that goes disastrously wrong. Instead, he is left with a form of vampirism that sees unimaginable darkness unleashed within him.
The film's release was delayed several times due to the Covid-19 pandemic after filming was completed in 2019. However, Morbius was released in cinemas around the UK today (March 31, 2022) and is due out in the USA tomorrow (April 1, 2022).

The film has received an age rating of 15 in the UK.
Unfortunately, the early reviews for Morbius have been, at best, mixed - and that's being very, very charitable.
Kevin Maher at The Times was particularly scathing. Giving the film just one star, he described it as "the cinematic equivalent of Murphy's Law" and an "appalling superhero snooze-fest." Maher then went on to state: "It's a movie without dramatic jeopardy, originality, narrative coherence, compelling characters or a single even vaguely human performance."
The Independent 's review begins with Clarisse Loughrey preparing to quit the film halfway through. However, she eventually gave it two stars despite calling it "too flavourless to even be the wild, untethered disaster some were secretly hoping for."
Some of the reviews praise the acting in the film, including Leto's performance, with Leah

Critically-acclaimed film The Northman is coming to UK cinemas this week. The epic historical fiction film is based on the medieval Scandinavian legend of Amleth - who was the direct inspiration for William Shakespeare’s character Hamlet.
Rebecca Rubin Film and Media ReporterAn animated movie about a blue, anthropomorphic speed demon is expected to outrace a Michael Bay action-thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal and a Marvel comic book adaptation at the box office this weekend. Welcome to the chaotic state of moviegoing in 2022.Indeed, Paramount’s family friendly sequel “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” looks to sell more tickets in North American movie theaters than Universal’s starry high-speed heist film “Ambulance” and Sony’s antihero adventure “Morbius,” featuring Jared Leto.
Zack Sharf “Morbius” director Daniel Espinosa remains “proud” of his comic book tentpole despite the movie earning abysmal reviews from film critics. The Jared Leto-starring superhero movie boasts a paltry 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the lowest-rated Marvel films ever released. Espinosa confronted the film’s negative reviews in an interview with Insider.“When I did my first feature it was a small movie called ‘Babylon Disease,'” Espinosa said.
Jared Leto went full method acting for “Morbius”.
Zack Sharf Jared Leto is known for staying in character throughout the duration of his film shoots, and on the “Morbius” set that apparently meant using a wheelchair to go to the bathroom. Similar to his character in the movie, Leto used crutches on set to maintain his character’s physicality. However, the crutches made Leto’s bathroom breaks a longer process than needed.
Jazz Tangcay Artisans EditorDigital Domain VFX supervisor Matt Butler is no stranger to visual effects transformations, and his north star is always to ensure the actor’s performance and idiosyncrasies come through. In this case of the new superhero film “Morbius,” Butler had to make sure audiences could still see elements of Jared Leto’s transformation, while staying true to the character seen in Marvel comic books. “It had to be physically plausible and believable,” Butler says.In the film, Leto immerses himself in the part of Dr.
After multiple delays, Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man” spin-off “Morbius” was finally released over the weekend. The third installment in Sony’s cinematic Spiderverse, which also includes the two “Venom” movies starring Tom Hardy, the studio has long teased a hard connection to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Refresh for latest…: New blood in the form of Sony’s Jared Leto-fronted Morbius led the global box office this weekend with an $84M debut, while Paramount’s Sonic The Hedgehog 2 got off to a booming $25.5M start from its first 31 offshore markets. Warner Bros/DC also has something to crow about as The Batman topped $700M worldwide.
Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter“Morbius,” the latest comic book adventure from Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, opened in first place at the domestic box office, though ticket sales were considerably softer than recent superhero blockbusters.Dinged by comically terrible reviews, “Morbius” sunk its teeth into $39.1 million from 4,268 North American theaters in its first weekend of release. That initial tally is at once a sign that audiences truly love comic book movies (in pandemic times, a non-superhero film with a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes wouldn’t stand a chance at the box office) and an indication that not every superhuman character will be greeted equally on the big screen.
“Morbius” is no different, as the film sees Leto portray the Marvel comic character Dr. Michael Morbius, who is born with a rare blood disorder and seeks to cure it through the bite of a vampire bat.Originally slated to come out in January of 2022, “Morbius” was pushed back to its holding release date of April 1 due to the onset of the omicron variant of the coronavirus after the 2021 holidays. “Morbius” will take place in the same Sony universe of Marvel movies as “Venom” and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.” But fans may be wondering how to watch “Morbius” — is the film streaming or only in theaters? All your answers below.“Morbius” opens in theaters April 1.No, “Morbius” is opening exclusively in theaters.
The filmmakers and corporations behind Sony’s Marvel Comics adaptation Morbius (★☆☆☆☆) have had ample time to consider what they’re aiming for with this big-budget film intro for living vampire, and vintage Spider-Man nemesis, Dr. Michael Morbius.Namely they should have figured out by now whether their version of the character — portrayed in astonishingly muted fashion by Oscar-winner and accent devourer Jared Leto — exists in any known Spider-Man film universe, or maybe one that’s merely Spidey-adjacent, à la Venom. After half a decade and at least seven release date delays, moviegoers and Marvel fans (not mutually exclusive) also have had ample time to try to make sense of every hint in the marketing, and every detail of speculation. But the murky, mundane origin story that director Daniel Espinosa and credited writing team Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have come up with treats making sense more as a perk than a prerequisite, so dial down expectations accordingly.Ultimately, Morbius is a setup — a long-winded prologue to some prospective later franchise entry, teased in the two underwhelming mid-credits sequences that will prolong this experience for many who would otherwise be ready to bolt by then. Strangely enough, the movie checks out first, practically stopping on a dime following a listless showdown between super-vampire-powered Morbius and friend-turned-foe Milo, played by past and perennial Dr.
With an Oscar, a top-selling band and two blockbuster movie franchises under his belt, it’s understandable why fans want to know about Jared Leto‘s net worth and if he makes more from his music or movie career.
Fresh blood. Jared Leto is returning to the superhero genre, but this time, his character also happens to be a vampire.
Marvel is hard to explain. He's a man and yet also a bat. No, not Batman.
