Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown is urging Bruno Fernandes to maintain a similar standard of performance to the one that he set in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.
The Portugal international, who sported the captain's armband for the second game in succession at Villa Park, brought his four-game run in the Premier League without a goal to an end by netting a brace, featuring a sublime finish for his second of the contest.
Unfortunately for Fernandes and United, of course, it was not enough to help them secure a much-needed victory, with Villa displaying fighting back from 2-0 down to salvage a point, courtesy of goals from Jacob Ramsey and debutant Philippe Coutinho.
Nevertheless, Brown believes there was plenty of positives to take from Fernandes' individual showing and he is now calling for him to maintain a similar standard moving forward, with the Portuguese ace having blown hot and cold this season.
Brown told United's official website on The Debate: "He was getting himself into those positions where we like to see him. He was scoring the two goals and bringing some of that quality back that he gave us a lot last season and in probably every game.
"You could see he was back into it.
"We need to see more from him, he has got to keep that going now, but it was a very good performance from him. The first goal, he got a bit lucky with it, but the second goal was fantastic.
"He was back about the pitch, you could see that energy in him and he was looking to score. Hopefully we will see that again, because he's had a few ups and downs this season."
