'We let loose': Coronation Street's Ryan Connor actor details how acid attack was filmed

Coronation Street’s acid attack horror took an unexpected turn in Monday’s episode when Ryan Connor stepped in to defend Daisy Midgeley - taking the full force of Justin Rutherford’s violence. Ryan, played by Ryan Prescott, was left writhing in agony with excruciating burns which are set to prove life-changing for the previously happy-go-lucky barman.
Viewers of the ITV1 soap will see a completely different side to the character as he battles for physical and mental recovery from the attack. Actor Ryan told how the storyline took him by surprise, saying: “Ian [Kershaw, writer] first called me when I was on holiday, I was sitting on a sunbed by the pool in Crete.
“I didn’t really know what to expect, he said there was something big in the pipeline for Ryan. I had no idea it was going to be that gritty because Ryan usually finds himself in the more humorous elements of the show.” Monday’s episode should have seen Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) marry Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), but as she waited in the Rovers with Ryan for her wedding car to arrive, sinister stalker Justin (Andrew Still) walked in.
Carrying a glass of acid, he went to throw it at Daisy - but Ryan bravely jumped in front of her and was burned instead.Talking about the attack scenes, Ryan said: “They were actually quite fun to shoot, we got to let loose a little bit. It was very high energy, everybody had this respectful urgency to tell the story, everyone was serious about what they were doing, but there was a lightness and a respect.” A traumatised Daisy had to drag Ryan into a cold shower to wash the acid away while waiting for the paramedics to arrive, and Ryan admitted it was one of the toughest elements to film as the water had to be completely cold so
