TIME Magazine’s annual ‘TIME100 Next’ list.On September 28, TIME unveiled the 2022 edition of its annual ‘TIME100 Next’ list of rising stars across the world, featuring 100 individuals across a multitude of sectors who the outlet believes will shape the future. These individuals range from musicians and medical professionals to movement leaders and top CEOs.The Squid Game break-out star became the first Korean actress to appear on the list.

Based on a webtoon of the same name, the new fantasy drama series will be set in the ’80s against the backdrop of large family conglomerate Sunyang Group.

Highlight member Yong Jun-hyung is reportedly gearing up to release his first solo material in three years.On September 27, South Korean news outlet OSEN reported that Yong is currently in the final stages of preparations for his upcoming solo album, which will mark his first release in roughly three years.Other details regarding the record’s exact release date, format, title and more were not disclosed by OSEN. Neither Yong Jun-hyung nor his representatives have officially responded to the report at the time of publication.If confirmed, Yong’s forthcoming return would notably mark his first music since he released the standalone single ‘Empty’ in 2019, featuring Suran. It will also be his first record since his debut studio album ‘Goodbye 20’s’ which dropped in 2018.

Manori Ravindran International Editor Malala Yousafzai has unveiled her first slate of film and TV projects for Apple TV+ through her production banner Extracurricular. The Nobel Laureate struck a programming deal with Apple TV+ last year, and appointed former Berlanti Productions executive and “The Flight Attendant” producer Erika Kennair as president of production at Extracurricular. The resulting projects reflect “Stranger Things” and “Severance” fan Yousafzai’s wide array of interests and tastes — some of which may surprise people. Headlining the slate is “Hyperobject,” a feature film adaptation of Elaine Hsieh Chou’s acclaimed book “Disorientation” — a sharp-edged, celebrated satire published earlier this year about a college student’s revealing dissertation on a young poet. The project will be directed by “Don’t Look Up” helmer Adam McKay.

BLACKPINK have become the first female K-pop act to debut at Number One on the Billboard 200 chart.On September 25, Billboard revealed that the quartet’s sophomore studio album ‘Born Pink’ had debuted at the top of its weekly Billboard 200 albums chart for the week ending September 22. This makes BLACKPINK the first female K-pop act ever, as well as the first all-female group since 2008, to do so.The record reportedly earned 102,000 equivalent album units in its release week, of which 75,500 comprised album sales, while streaming and track equivalent units totalled 25,000 and 1,500 each.It is BLACKPINK’s second Top 10 entry on the music chart, after their first studio album ‘THE ALBUM’ debuted at Number 2 upon its release in 2020.‘Born Pink’ is the third album by a South Korean act to top the weekly albums chart in 2022, following BTS’ ‘Proof’ and Stray Kids’ ‘Oddinary’.

Glitch has been shared by Netflix at its TUDUM event today (September 24).The virtual preview event gives fans a look at what is coming up on the streaming platform for the rest of the year and beyond.In the Korean segment of the stream, Netflix revealed a longer preview of Glitch, the new sci-fi mystery series that will star Jeon Yeo-bin (Vincenzo, Alienoid) and Nana (Oh My Ladylord, Swindlers).SHINee’s Minho introduced the clip at the event, describing the series as “a story about Ji-hyo, who can see aliens and Bo-ra, who has been tracking down aliens”. “They search to find Ji-hyo’s boyfriend, who has gone missing without a trace and end up taking a step closer to unsolved mysteries in this bizarre series,” he continued.“This series is by Gin Han-sai, the writer of Extracurricular, which left many viewers in shock.

Netflix has shared a first look at the upcoming original Korean film 20th Century Girl, which follows the lives and loves of 17-year-old girls in 1999.The extended preview was shared as part of the streaming platform’s TUDUM event today (September 24), in which upcoming content for the rest of 2022 and beyond was revealed.The film was introduced by All Of Us Are Dead star Cho Yi-hyun, who described it as “depicting friendships and first love of 17-year-old girls”. “The movie is titled 20th Century Girl, starring Kim Yoo-jung,” she added.

Money Heist: Joint Economic Area has been shared at Netflix’s TUDUM preview event.Today (September 24), the streaming platform is sharing first looks at some of its upcoming programmes around the world, kicking off with a section dedicated to its Korean slate.TUDUM Korea began with an exclusive new clip from part two of the remake of Money Heist. It was introduced by Lee Hyun-woo, who plays Rio in the series, and shows a fatal face-off between former comrades.“The Joint Task Force tightens its grip as the genius heist team unravels its plan,” reads the official YouTube description.

EXO’s Xiumin has been cast in a new K-drama titled Sajangdol Mart (literal translation), marking his first role in seven years.On September 14, South Korean news outlet JTBC News reported that the K-pop idol will be starring as the lead in a new K-drama titled Sajangdol Mart. The claims were later confirmed by SM Entertainment in their response via XSports News later that day, as translated by Soompi.Other details regarding the new series, including a premiere date, full cast list and visuals, have yet to be confirmed by the production company behind Sajangdol Mart. According to JTBC News’ original report, Sajangdol Mart will allegedly depict the journeys of several individuals, who were all former K-pop idols, as they endeavour to open and run a supermarket together. The series will reportedly be helmed by director and producer Lee Yoo-yeon, previously known for her work on the web drama Best Mistake. Xiumin’s highly anticipated role in Sajangdol Mart will mark the singer’s first acting project in roughly seven years, since making his acting debut in the 2015 romantic-comedy web series Falling For Challenge. He was involved in that series as its lead, starring alongside Kim So-eun, and subsequently starred in the film Seondal: The Man Who Sells The River that same year, alongside Korean actors Yoo Seung-ho, Cho Jae-hyun, Ko Chang-seok and more.

Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae has made history by becoming the first Korean actor to win an Emmy award for Best Actor in a Drama. During Monday (12 September) night’s ceremony, the 49-year-old actor won the Emmy award for his lead role in the Korean-language series. “Thank you to the Television Academy, thank you to Netflix and thank you to the director for making realistic problems we all face come to life so creatively on the screen with a great script,” he said during his acceptance speech at the star-studded ceremony.

Director  JD Dillard says he grew up hearing all about his own father’s  experiences as the second African American Blues Angels pilot, so naturally when Adam Makos’ book, Devotion came out he was instantly intrigued about adapting to the screen. The book tells the story of the friendship and, yes, devotion (where the title comes from in part) of two elite US Navy fighter pilots who made a big difference in one of the Korean War’s most intense battles in the early 1950’s.  But the story has great significance as it really tells the extraordinary tale of Jesse Brown who became the first Black  aviator in Navy history, and together with his unique friendship and working relationship with Tom Hudner the pair became legend as authentic Navy wingmen heroes.

The film is set in Colombia in 1960, just a few days after the Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann was caught by Mossad agents in Argentina. Polsky, played by Hayman, is a lonely and grumpy old man, living in the remote Colombian countryside. He is a survivor of the Holocaust. He spends his days playing chess and tending his beloved rosebushes. One day, a mysterious old German man – played by Kier – moves in next door, and Polsky suspects that his new neighbor is… Adolf Hitler. Since nobody believes him, he embarks on a mission to uncover the evidence. In order to gather it, however, he will need to come closer to his neighbor than he would like – so close that the two could almost become friends.
